As for inside/outside English Vs check/running side, I'd say the latter is more of an apt description than the former, but then again, I am biased lol.

I worded my point poorly. US pool does have terms for check and running, maybe several, I've forgotten what they are.

But I've never come across equivalent terms for inside and outside english in the snooker world (commentary and instruction). FWIW, both outside and inside english can result in either check or running side.

And don't get me started on squirt, throw and kicks.

I can't believe I'm saying this but there's an opportunity for someone like Patrick Johnson/DrDave in the snooker world. Whilst the commentators know what is happening with the balls, there isn't a defined terminology like there is in American pool. I've never heard them specifically discuss things like deflection or throw - they'll say something oblique like "he can use a bit of side to turn the ball over a bit to make the potting angle", which is gibberish once you're familiar with the word "throw". Same with deflection - they'll say how hard it is to play with side, but not explain why. I had no idea the CB deflected until I played American pool, and couldn't understand why I kept missing when I was using side.

A consultant that understands physics could do well in the snooker world.

FAAM is okay, the rule they need to get rid of is the 'free ball' - especially when snoopers are required. It's both a dumb rule and gimmicky.

The best solution to the speed of the game would be to keep FAAM but make it where you have to hit a rail on color balls. This would rid the game of the 'tuck up' which is the most cowardly shot in all of billiards.
