Just saw a clip on youtube of Steve Davis vs Jim Rempe, playing 9 ball pool in a challenge match called Yugo Cars Challenge 1985. Anyone know anything about this tournament? Was is similar to the Fiat Snooker-Pool Championship between Davis and Mizerak, where snooker and pool are played?

Snooker players have a thing for cars.
Ronnie O'Sullivan has been on Top Gear.
Judd Trump has upgraded from an Audi R-8 to a Ferrari.

The origin was in 1982 when Steve Davis made the first 147 on TV ...
and won a Lada.

Undoubtedly, competitions for Yugos and Fiats were just publicity gimmicks dreamed up by Barry Hearn to expand Steve's exotic car collection.

As always, a pleasure to expand American knowledge of the game of snooker and its history ... and create more misinformation to be enshrined as gospel on the WWW.

Hey NOW, lets not get carried away. An R8 to a ferrari is a lateral move, and I would even argue a backward one, depending on which dancing donkey he bought! :p:p:p

seriously though, I which episode is Ronnie O, on Top Gear?

Thanks for the info!

My first car as a teenage was a 1963 Saab 96 - 3 cylinder 2 stroke.

That's 2 stroke as in a lawnmower. It was a great car to own as a first car because it broke down frequently and I learned how to work on cars from the Saab 96. The engine had a tendency to seize.

If they were to have a Saab 96 pool tournament I would award the car to whoever finished last.

Top Gear
Series 4 - Episode 4 - 30 May 2004
Star in a Reasonably Priced Car: Snooker player Ronnie O'Sullivan comes in at 1:47.3. He also proves he can play a reduced frame of snooker (with four reds instead of fifteen) faster than the Stig can drive Ronnie's own car (a Mercedes-Benz SL500) around the track.

When he talks about 170,000 for his 147 That's in pounds, folks.
Exchange rate was about $1.80 US or about $300,000. :D
Now you understand why he had both a Bentley and a big Mercedes.

A Guy walked into the local NAPA store.

"You got a gas cap for a Yugo?"

"That sounds like a fair swap."

I've heard that one a few times too. There use to be a guy around here that caged one and put a motorcycle engine in one. It was pretty cool from the pics I've seen, but thats all I ever saw were pics.

Not to get too off topic, but this is a fantastic idea. I would love to play in a tournament where prizes were given to the losers, but the prizes would be sh*t that nobody would want! You lose, you wear a snuggy and a top hat for the rest of the tournament! Haha:)

I did see the ronnie o'sullivan top gear episode, it's worth a watch.
