I thought you might be working and someone else would take a guess first. :smile:
Here is the finished but untested product with one of the UNBELIEVABLY STRONG magnets:

I was afraid to use the larger magnets because the smaller one pinched my finger before I could blink. I wasn't paying attention to what you had said previously about how strong they were.
The video on youtube with the guy holding a rare earth magnet about half the size of a beer can being able to crush your hand if it got in the way of a piece of steel is probably spot on.
Thanks for the heads-up about the rare-earth magnets. Now I have to try decide where I will wear the belt clip. I already know it won't fall off easily. I've tried brushing it off with a little tap but the chalk doesn't just fall off with simple accidental brushing..
May be in the market for some belt clips.

Every time I get an additional cell phone with a belt clip, I will make a new one with a different magnet.
The truth is I will probably be going to beltclips.com or some other similar website soon. :grin:

How about, instead of a belt clip, you just put one magnet in your pocket? Then your chalk will magically stick to the outside of your pants.
As an aside: whatever you do, don't swallow two of them a few hours apart. They'll connect parts of your innards that aren't meant to be connected, and then make new holes in your innards.

A couple words of caution, though:
1. Be careful with those magnets. I wasn't exaggerating when I said that you can literally pinch-off sections of the skin on your fingers if you can't get your fingers out of the way in time when this type of magnet comes near a dense piece of steel. And, those magnets have that clear protective coating (because the rare earth elements neodymium and samarium oxidize/corrode quickly), that's actually an anti-coagulant -- so you'll bleed like a stuck pig as well.
2. Because the Predator chalk is "taller" in height than a standard cube of chalk, it might be more susceptible to catching on things when you sit down / walk by. Thus, the chalk will "tip" and snap back to the magnet often. This can weaken the glue bond that holds the bit of steel to the bottom of the chalk. (Or, weaken the paper label's adhesive to the bottom of the chalk itself.) Thus, the bit of steel at the bottom may rip off, taking some of the paper label from the bottom of the chalk with it.
It should prove to be very usable, though. You'll find that you'll quickly adapt your PSR to use a slight tilting motion to remove the chalk. And you'll love the fact that you don't have to "feel around" to find the opening in a pouch. The magnet lets you know where it is when you bring the chalk near, and "homes it in" like a tracking beacon until it clicks in place.
And, the only thing that wears in this scenario, is the chalk itself. It's not like a leather pouch where the stitching ultimately gives way.
P.S. why would I chide you on your selection of chalk? I have a piece myself, and I quite like it (on par with Blue Diamond; more or less on par with Russian Magic).

The problem with that is the chalk holder (housing, actually) itself. Some folks don't want their chalk boxed up like that. They want to be able to use the whole cube, not just the top 1/8-inch that peeks over the sides, or even worse, be forced to "drill" the chalk through a little hole.

That's one that I have. And the maker -- John Leitch -- customized mine.
But again, though, the rubberized holder only allows you to use the top 1/8-inch of the chalk that peeks over the sides. Putting coins inside to "jack up" the chalk makes it less stable, and you get to a point where the chalk cube falls out of it.
I just put the rubberized holder aside, and use only the leather medallion that goes on your belt (it has the rare earth magnet embedded inside). I glue the round knockouts from steel electrical boxes (or heavy steel washers) to the bottom of the chalk cube with either polyurethane ("Gorilla Glue") or Barge Cement, taking care to sand any sharp edges before gluing (otherwise, with the pulling strength of the rare earth magnet, these sharp edges will cut the leather on the Chalk Shark medallion).
Result: the chalk cube is completely exposed, and you can use/wear it down as far as you want.
Joey's little project above is actually a homemade version of the Chalk Shark, using spare parts he already had. He just needed to upgrade the magnets he had (which were weaker ceramic magnets) to rare earth ones.

Wood magnets. If you stroke your shaft in the right direction, it will take all the negative energy out. One magnet under and one over. All the wood fibers will be pointing in the same direction.
Of course, you can add that to the Apprentices Gopher list.
Hey Buddy, go to Home Depot and get 4 wood magnets. While you are there, pick up a package of 45 degree sanding paper so we can do the window trim.
The wood magnets will hold the wood to the wall to nail it easier.

I used it today at lunch time. One of my students called for a follow up lesson and it was only an hour so I met him and gave a lesson for an hour. I had a great time teaching and letting that Predator Chalk "SNAP" to the magnet. It was a lot of fun. I like the "SNAP". It will be my trademark for sure.
I used an exacto knife and cut and shaved the label from the bottom of the chalk and glued the metal disk directly to the bottom of the chalk.
After setting the belt clip in place, I started just sliding the chalk upward and it removed quite nicely, until I started sliding the clip off as well. It didn't happen often but I don't want it to happen ever, so I started sliding the chalk downward and off the clip. That worked well and since I have big hips my pants didn't slide off either. Actually that motion worked best but as I went down to the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel to have my hair cut, I was in a hurry for the appointment and helped a little old lady I didn't notice that I had left my clip and chalk on my belt. After getting the hair cut and going out the same way, I found my clip, magnet and chalk still attached sitting on the floor where I had helped the little old lady. It had somehow come off of my belt. This clip will not have a long life, I promise.
I LOVE the way the chalk "homes-in" on the magnet. You don't have to look or feel your way to the location; just put it close and the magnet does the rest of the work. I LOVE the "SNAP"! No pinched fingers to report either.
Will get more clips to try until I reach another stage of enlightenment.

I only have about $35 worth of magnets, two belt clips, an old piece of metal, some already purchased Gorilla glue and about 2 hours of labor invested. ( I took the metal into the work shop and cut and ground the shape to fit the bottom of the Predator chalk, perfectly.) It's been worth every penny and every second and it's only going to cost me more time and hardly any money. My good friend DocHutch suggested that I visit one of the large cell phone stores or one of the mall accessory stores and check out the different phone clips there.
Having more fun than any one man should be allowed to have.*
