I just saw an ad that says McDermott cues are made in the USA. Would this make you more likely to buy a McDermott when compared to Chinese brands like Predator or Joss?

I love my McDermott cues! :thumb up: The main reason was the lifetime warranty, to tell you the truth….oh, and 'Merika!
I guess yes, but almost all the cue brands I would ever consider are also made in the US so it's not like it really gives them an advantage over other brands...simply puts them on the same playing field. Other than low end options like Players and then Predator and Lucasi I'm not really aware of any other imported cue brands that are out there.
Already have 2, although I like my old D 11 better than my newer G series with G-Core shaft.
Joss is a USA brand, designed and built in the Baltimore area.
Predator is also a USA brand out of Jacksonville, FL, with global contract manufacturing in China. Up until a few years ago, I believe their shafts were built in the U.S., with contract manufacturing at a few U.S. cue builder's shops. Whether they build all of their stuff off-shore (which I don't know today) does not exclude them from being U.S. brand company.

Aside from the fact that Joss cues are not made in China, and neither are a "Chinese brand", there are several McD models made overseas.

A very nice piece of hidden marketing when they say "manufactured globally".
I think Surfer there needs to learn a bit more about cues before posting any more.

Well if you've seen some of the new lower end Joss cues I've received, it would be a good question. Actually I don't need to question it...I can guess.
With the amount of Joss cues made and how small his shop is, it would be a reasonable question.

It would be the first I've heard of it and, from the looks of the replies, I wouldn't be the only one.
It certainly would not count as a negative! I have a couple of Pechauers that are great production cues and made in America. :thumbup:
That's one of the things I like about OB. They are located in the great state of Texas. Even better, they are 20 minutes from my house in north Dallas. BTW the OB guys are one of the top BCA Masters league teams in the area, so they know a little something about the game...
There was a time 5 years ago when McDermott had 3 different cue models that they got the blanks from China and finished them here and branded them McDermott's and passed them off as made in the US. I know this for a fact as I was going to buy one from an online dealer and the price I got seemed very low. So I e-mailed McDermott and I was told that the blank was made in China and finished here to their standards. Did this make it a bad cue? No just a misrepresented cue.
And it was not labeled a Star or Lucky that they import from China.
Makes you wonder how many other made in the US cues start out as Chinese made blanks and are not disclosed as such.

Now you have two cues that you couldn't resale for what you have in them. You would have done much better to buy a used custom or used production cue so that you can keep some equity in your cue collection. Dont get me wrong, a poison shoots just fine. Collecting them however is a bad idea because you will never sell one for more or equal than you paid.
