I am deleting threads here

If you are selling an item and someone asks you a question 30 min after you start the thread, if you answer the question, is this considered a bump?

Thanks,
JK

Yes. A "bump" is any post that "bumps" the thread back to the top of the page. Threads are displayed by which thread has the latest post.

Yes, think so.....but it's not a bump if you answer it via PM or edit your original post to include the answer. The person shouldn't have asked it in the thread, should have PMed the seller instead. If people would just do that...

All these bright ideas but the one I like best is-

I say double George move. Hay where did my thread go! Bye bye!!
I have been guilty of answering questions if they were asked right away. I have threads I haven't bumped in a long time also. Bumping gives a perception of panic and need to sell. I look for that.
Great Job,
Nick :)

Hopefully this solves some of the problems.

I find it funny how many people bump their threads ALMOST 48 hours. Almost like as long as they are 2 days apart it is close enough to 48 hours. Honestly, it does not bother me too much, but I find it funny that some of the self appointed forum police are guilty of this also. Let the moderators do their jobs as they feel fit. If something is bothering you, you can either NICELY pm the seller, or mention something to the moderators. AZ police do more harm then good usually, and can come off like know-it-all jerks.

Courtesy can go a long way.

There's a lot of little "clicks" on here who are just bumping there friends threads and they know exactly what there doing. Thank you Jerry...but I hope you have a lot a free time on your hands to baby sit this section:smile: And just a note
If nothings forsale please post your silly questions and news flashes somewhere else!

I will work on Shill Bumps later

That's funny><

I agree that deleting threads with blatant disregard is a good idea.
Shill bumping has been around since the beginning of time, often it is unintentional by the seller,
and certain cues get a lot of attention.
Cues & cases that get a lot of extra attention typically sell quickly, so I think it's healthy from a sales standpoint,
and sometimes it's good to see that the seller has some support out there.

pushy used car salesman

i have sold 36 cues here and never bumped any of my cues. i have answered a few questions until i learned you should do so in a p.m.
the people that bump bump bump, just remind me of a used car salesman that gets in your face and trys to make you buy something you really don't want. I NEVER buy anything from them.

We must not forget the threads that don't have anything for sale or wanted. Those have been really crazy also.

I've never seen any website with these kind of rules for the classified section. Why are these types of rules even necessary ? seems kinda ridiculous to me and it doesn't really affect me since i don't trade much on here.

Yes, today it is those who bump their own threads. I will work on Shill Bumps later.

This forum loses value when a few folks feel they have the right to keep their posts on the first page. I tried sending out nice notes to bumpers and many obeyed but many did not. So I am out of patience.

I am certain I will get many PM's saying I removed threads that were not bumped. Before you send me that PM figure out how much you want to bet before I show you the threads. Minimum bet is $50.

Please be careful about deleting threads that were bumped by others. This could lead to some serious issues because then any antagonist can have someone's thread deleted by bumping it.

I think you should also make a knocking rule that is enforced with ZERO tolerance. IF anyone comes into a thread and knocks ANYTHING in any way then they are banned without warning. People should be allowed to report knocking and the punishment carried out swiftly. That will stop it cold.

FWIW it's hard to do it exactly at 48 hours. I don't even understand the time stamps. I just had to give away another $1000 case because people got into my contest and the time stamps I saw indicated they were too late but their time stamps indicated that they were definitely in on time. So I drew again and gave away two cases instead of one.

I never understood the no knocking rule. I cannot think of any other transaction situation where people not allowed to comment on someone's price or product why not here? The market dictates the price and we are the market. If someone posts a dale perry cue for sale at $600 saying its and $1800 cue we should have the right to comment, educate and protect others. Free trade- free speech.

Sorry to hear that John. When dealing with a situation like yours, I have seen confusion about the different time zones.

However.....48 hours should not be too hard for one person to figure out. Their timestamp should stay the same. If i make a thread at 8pm on Monday, and bump it Wednesday at 11am, that is not 48 hours.

like I mentioned before, it really does not bother me much. I feel like I have bigger problems to deal with. I just find it funny that some of the people who always get on others about breaking the rules, are guilty themselves.

I would say it's for the same reason you can't stand in the middle of Best Buy and warn other people about their prices/practices. You simply have to respect a person's space and a for sale post is their space. Just like renting a booth at the flea market or having a food cart there is a certain space that belongs to them which should be free of conflict.

My thought is that if you want to knock then start a new thread in the main forum and explain your reasons and link to it. Let the discussion happen there. And if it's something scammy then hopefully it will be reported so the mods can look at it and make the decision to delete it or not.

Also knocking bumps threads. It clutters up the for sale section. Whether the knock is justified or not it detracts from the ability of others to have their threads seen when a knock thread ends up with a lot of comments.

I Agree! Besides I don't think I've ever purchased anything off the first few pages. if I'm looking to buy I use the advanced search option to find what I want, it doesn't need to be on page 1.

The "Hot topic" should be on top anyway

Amen brother, and the seller should have his Gold Membership privileges revoked.
If the perp is not a Gold Member then issue a $35 fine, or 1-year banishment from the forum.
That's how you deal with a bunch of pool players that somehow learned to use a computer><

PM perhaps. I have seen a know-it-all say something negative about a sellers item....only to be wrong. They knocked a thread, and really they did not know what they were talking about. Probably doesn't happen very often, but why even risk it by saying anything in public. P'S them first seems like the polite thing to do.

There's a big difference between a scam alert and knocking. I'd say 99% of AZers are savvy enough to know what somethings worth. Cues right now are like the real estate market was some years back. List it for what it's worth to you and then chase the ball down hill to get what the AZ "market" will bear. That's all we need is people jumping in on threads giving their $.02 on pricing. If people pay too much for something then they didn't do their research.
