Places to play in Lexington, KY

Good morning all,
Just moved to Lexington, KY due to a job transfer. Can anyone direct me to some good places to play? Would really like to find a friendly atmosphere with weekly tournaments and what not. Any help is appreciated.

Everything has shut down with the exception of Silver Cue. They have a Monday night 9 ball tournament. Most of the other tournaments throughout the week are in neighboring counties and require a drive, sometimes as much as an hour plus.

I'd be glad to meet up sometime and play a little. I have a 3rd shift schedule with 12 hour days so my free time is a little erratic. Send me a pm if you want to meet up

Any insight on the number of tables, brand(gold crown, diamonds etc.), types of players and what not?

What are the names of the other places in neighboring counties?

I play in Somerset. It is a little out if the way pool hall that is open 7am to 10pm. They have four diamond tables. Two 9s one regulation and one bar table. I have never had any trouble getting a table. No tournaments but I did have some kid trying to bet with me. Of course he saw how bad I was playing. Oh and they geet the tables refelted every year to. Got cheese burgers and stuff like that to.

Saw some older guys playing with that kid so there is a little action. Pretty quiet and no drinking though. Hard to find to I like it. When my better half gets up I'll ask her the name of it. I can't remember it. Took me forever to find it.

I think there is like 19 tables... 6 valley bar tables, 4 Olhausen 9 footers and the rest are Olhausen 8 footers. Not the best, but it's all we have now. There is a place downtown called Yesterdays but it is all 8 foot casual players.

We've got nothing left. Johnny Brumley opened a place where Smiley's used to be on Winchester, but it shut down last year. He had diamonds in there and it was great; had some issues though with making money.

You are talking about Brumley's Billiards behind the storage place.

You can't listen to Brandon. He is a no talent hack and not trustworthy. just kidding, he's a good guy and one of my regular sparring partners. He is about right about places to play. Though I hear joyland bowling alley has four new diamond bar tables and a good tourney there as well.

I would also be interested in meeting up and shooting some stick. Brandon claims he has to work tomorrow, but I will be looking for a contestant, just friendly of course. If you are interested in meeting up sometime or even tomorrow afternoon, then shoot me a pm. I always enjoy meeting new folks and my wife needs me out of the house anyway to focus on her masters degree coursework.

Cheers and welcome to the bluegrass (where the horses are beautiful and the women are fast)

There's a monthly 9 ball tournament today at silver cue. Race to 5/4, starts at 3. $15 entry (forgot it was the first of the month).

And I resent the no talent hack part JL. It may be true, but I still resent it.

I know it is a drive, but, you guys need to come on down to Bankshots in Louisville, Ky. 10 Diamonds 9' upstairs and two GC3's down stairs.

The room is set up in an old bank on the corner of Preston and Market. Weekly tournaments, Truman Bank Tournaments, and APA on Sunday.

Lots of nice people and you can find friendly action.

I gotto check out out when I went too the DCC. Awesome place. And that 5x10 downstairs is unreal. We tried playing some 9 ball on the snooker table. Showed me just how bad I really am.

Those tables play tuff. They will humble the best of players. I was down there last night getting my 1 pocket fix for the week. I have APA Sunday afternoon and needed to work some stuff out.

I wish we had a league somewhere around here. I would have to drive an hour and a half to Lexington to play. That sucks.

Gullett's has been closed for a long time...since maybe 2000?? I can't remember exactly but has been awhile. They actually moved over to Eastland shopping center and opened a fishing tackle shop before eventually closing it down too.

Steepleton's was the last great pool room in Lexington. Johnny Brumley opened Diamonds a few years back but didn't make it too long there either.

High commercial rent and a piss poor economy is a tough nut everywhere!

I'm also here in Lexington and wouldn't find minding some new people to shoot with. If anyone else in the area wants to shoot, hit me up via PM...
