Alex Brick - A cue maker that stands behind his product

When I was down at the Music City Open, I bought a Dymondwood Jump/Break from Alex Brick, as he's the house cue maker at J.O.B.'s. The reason I bought the cue is that I do some woodworking myself and I know how tough Dymondwood is. I also break pretty hard and I have a tendency to tear up break cues due to the power put into them. Last week when I was taking the joint protectors off the cue, I noticed a crack in the joint.

Yes, I managed to break a Dymondwood cue. I contacted Alex here on the forums and explained what I found. He responded the same day with "Send it back and I can fix, not a problem as I warranty it."

I know there's been a lot of talk around here lately about cue makers screwing people over, so I just wanted to put one out there that not only delivers on his product, but stands behind them as well. I'll definitely be doing business with Alex again.

Good deal, i respect anyone who stands behind what they build, especially in today's world.

cracked break cue

Yes those are nice break cues and they jump great. Pretty common that it is cracked however. I know more than a few that have had to have them repaired. Alex is a good guy and always makes it good. I had one of his custom cues and use the jump cue of his myself.

I've been really thinking about getting a brick j/b just haven't done it yet

If you look at it, it looks like it split right in the middle of a lamination. I've done quite a bit of work turning dymondwood and if it breaks, that's where it does it... right at the lamination. I went through 3 blanks to create this shaving brush because of just that.

That set is awesome! What Alex did is how it should always be! Unfortunately it isn't, but we can reward him for standing behind his work.

I had a similar problem happen with my Schmelke break cue. The insert backed out of the shaft while I was breaking. I called David and he immediately told me to send it in. A few weeks later it was back to me and free of charge.
The best part about it is, I had asked him, while he had the cue, if he could build me another shaft identical to the original, but with maple instead of purple heart. He ended up apologizing that it took so long and sent me the new shaft also free of charge!
I've had plenty of Schmelkes and you can see why I keep going back!

The same can be said for Alex. It's the little things that build a reputation!

I've heard nothing but good things about Alex Brick and his cues. Seems that this is just one more reason to deal with him.

I also have a jump/break by Alex along with a custom cue. I've talked to him on the phone and via PM. I have nothing but the highest regard for Alex and his work. My jump/break is not for sale. Many have tried to buy it. None have succeeded.

Rezin8...maybe you should break left handed. It might be easier on the equipment. Oh, and try one of Alex's shooting cues sometime.

I tried shooting lefty for a while after my shoulder injury and couldn't do it. No coordination.

all i can say is you must have one helluva break. i have one of his jump/breaks and i thought they were darn near indestructible.

When you're putting ~275 lbs behind it, it moves pretty quickly. I'd love to get a gun on it one day.
