Being that it seems like both pool fans and pool players play both games, what about sportbars and/or venues holding pool tournaments and poker tournaments together, linking the poker to pool in some way? I don't know if this would be legal in any state. I have the perfect promoter for it too...Jay Helfant. He is a promoter and plays and knows both games well. Johnnyt Johnnyt

I study poker books to be a better pool player. The gambling aspect of poker can really open your eyes as a pool player. I like pool because of the solitude that i can have an still enjoy when i practice. I play poker pretty good, made more money at it than i do pool, poker players believe at almost every level that they have a chance to win so a knowledgeable player can exploit this for profit without the hustle. Pool is different becouse without the hustle a player will see he can't compete very quickly. Mixing the 2 in my opinion only brings more money to the poker players. .. pool players will naturally shift faster to poker for the easy money. I rather play pool, poker is too easy. ... i do wish they did that show pool, poker, and pain. I liked the idea

I play both games but keep them compartmentalized to a great extent; mainly because there isn't a place I know of here that one can have a good experience with both. In Colorado there are many pool rooms that have "free" poker. When I'm in the pool room, I'm never tempted by the poker there as there isn't enough skin in the game to allow for skill to become a real factor in the game.

At our casinos where you can find some OK poker games, there aren't any venues that will give up the real-estate for pool tables, outside of the poker rooms are the slots, table games, etc. that garner higher revenue per sq. ft.

If there was a place where I could have a quality experience with both, I’d be a fixture there. I've gotten knocked out of some decent sized poker tournaments (around $1K buy-in) and really wished there was a 9’ Diamond I could play on to take my mind off poker for a while. Vise-versa with wanting to focus on a poker game after I just lost a league match-up I should have one.

Add shooting as the third leg of the contest, after you win at pool, lose at poker you will be in the mood to shoot something.

Beyond the gambling, I don't see where one has anything to do with the other. There is no cross over. Pool players can easily play poker to some degree, where as poker players most likely can't beat any pool player on the pool table. It would make for an almost un-watchable embarrassing competition.

If they are not all going to compete at both games what would be the point? Might as well have a pool/cooking competition or pool/fishing competition. I see your point, you want pool to try to pick up some interest by linking it to something that is more marketable. Pool always did that in the past by being linked to bowling. All bowling alleys had pool rooms.

That seems to have faded though. My town has like one bowling alley today with no pool room. When I was a kid there was like 6 and they all had pool rooms, one with 30 tables. That is a tough change to over come. Even if you can generate some pool interest, there are so few places for people to play outside of bars it would not do much good.

Lets face it, pool is by and large just a subcultural sport with a small following. Nothing can be done to change that. It can't compare to poker. Poker is entrenched in our culture. Even during WWII, Korea, Vietnam soldiers played poker in their spare time. They were given cards and cigarettes by the military. I don't see pool as ever having that kind of social connection.

Quite the contrary, it has always been something to be socially avoided by the general public. For example, "You have trouble in River city, with a capital "T" and that rimes with "P" and that stands for Pool". That is pretty tough to live down.
