Proud of my wife!...She's playing pool and improving fast.

My wife wanted to tag along with me to a tournament to get out of the house a few weeks ago. The guy running the tourney was telling me about a scotch doubles league that he was putting together...I told him that it sounded cool but I doubt my wife would go for it because she's just not into pool...To my surprise a couple hours later the tournament director comes over and hands me some paperwork and says "You're all signed up for scotch doubles"...I guess he was telling someone else about it and my wife was listening in...She decided to sign us up.

We had a couple practice nights and once I got her holding the cue right and in a decent stance she started making a ball here and there. We played our first match and got our asses handed to us...we lost 6-2...I thought that this would discourage her but it did just the opposite all of the sudden she wants to practice more...We tied our second match 4-4 and last night we played our third match and won 5-3. We had a 7 ball run together almost getting out from our opponents break. I had to leave her a tough shot on the 8 and she came really close to making it.

I sure hope she sticks with this...She has never shown much interest in pool in the past...normally after a couple games she's done and she never really cared to learn or improve. Now I catch her watching over my shoulder when I'm watching pool on youtube and what not...even watch some older women's pro stuff together...Cracked me up Karen Cor draws a ball almost the full length of the table and my wife pauses it and asks me "how in the hell did she do that?"....we went and did lessons on draw and follow that night :D
 
Just make sure it stays fun for her...and that you don't become the over-bearing husband, criticizing every move she makes.

Shaun...Glad the stuff I sent you seems to have done the trick! Keep up the good work...and never fail to make it "fun" for her!

Yep got that covered...I'm teaching at her learning pace and keeping the vibe fun and positive....Our next lesson is going to be the importance of angles lol...I have 3 more weeks that I'm allowed to coach her during our matches (allowed to coach for the first half of the season) after that she gets one time out per rack where I can give her advice so I'm trying to get her to where she at least has a basic understanding of where good shape is...
 
Thats aswsum, il watch pool for hours and my wife's "how the he'll do u find this fun to watch" I remember one time I was watching a svb match he played an amazing shot and my wife happened to see it, she was amazed but went on to tell me I bet you can't do that Lol. . Yea dont take this tip lightly! My last two gfs loved pool before they met me. Now they both stopped playing completely bc I was trying to teach them too much and it wasn't fun anymore.

Seen plenty of other guys make the same mistake. Girls are naturally hard on themselves. They don't need us telling them what to do. Lol
 
my gf plays pool. I met her playing pool actually. She has 0 natural talent for the game is so painful to play with its unreal. You sir are a lucky man. lol

Scott, The info you sent has helped me a ton in translating what I'm trying to tell her...We haven't gone through all of it yet and we're looking forward to watching your DVD. Andrea is picking things up pretty quick and she seems to be having fun at the same time so I couldn't be happier...Thanks again for the help

very cool.

Im lucky I guess. I met my wife of 9 years at the pool hall and I spanked her when she came to the table saying she was a good shot. Now we play all the time and she gives me a run for my money on some days....
 
My wife loves pool and we shoot together all the time. She is always telling me "I was better before I met you". I just try to get her to play position and hold her cue right. She was always happy to play position for a long bank. I was like but you can go down table for position. She said she liked the "woo woo" factor when she made the bank. Women, who can figure them out.

Try to find a scotch doubles league or tournament.That way you can play as a team. That's what caught Andrea's attention was we could play together....Win loose or draw we're having a good time. I just made it clear to my wife that there is no pressure to perform and I'm not going to be mad or disappointed or anything if she misses.

my g/f has been playing pool for years. she has had a table at home for about 5 years now. i don;t know how long she has been playing league but she got me to join her apa team when we started dating 3 years ago.

she is a 3 " a very weak 3 " and will all ways be a 3. i and my co captain who is a 7/9 have tried to give her advice. any thing and i mean any thing we say she takes as criticism of her playing ability.

don't ever make the mistake of calling time out on her. she will turn around with daggers shooting from her eyes and then this grating " WHAT ???? " comes from her mouth.

she hates for me to call a time out on her. after several discussions of me trying to explain to her it is easier for me to call a time out when i see her going to make a mistake than it is for her to get in trouble and then her call a time out and me try to get her out of a bad spot i decided to just give up and let her do her thing.

now i never say any thing while she is playing and i gotta hear it all the way home about a 2 kicking her ass 18-2. still luv her though.:thumbup:

You should buy her a lession with Scott for her birthday or Christmas...Maybe she just doesn't want advise from you lol...I have a friend out here who's wife is kind of like that. She is set in her ways and absolutely will not take any advise from her husband who is one of the better shooters in our area...For some reason she'll listen to me though...
 
Forgot about timeouts. She hates my advice. My wife is so laid back about everything. Except my pool advice. I did get her to level her cue out because she was hitting down on the cue ball. She did seem excited that she could follow through much better. This is a woman that has played pool for a long time and shoots pretty good. He worst shot is ball in hand. She hates it.

i had an all day lesson here at the house 2 years ago with randy g. she was off work that day and wanted no part of it.

she is a great woman and we never have any issues except when i call time out on her. man i could write a book about our moments playing pool. you would not believe the predicaments she gets herself into and then...she decides to call a time out on herself.

i do want to share one story with you because of who was there and witnessed it.she was on the 8 and it was mostly blocked by an opponents ball. you could just see about a 1/2 inch of it. i told her where to hit the 8 and where to hit the cue ball . told her to bank it back up table to the top left corner pocket. she made it.

a guy who was there with both our lo's commented to me it was a heck of a shot and he would never have thought of it. he was quite impressed upon learning she was a 3 and i am a 5 and coached her so well on that shot.

turns out this guy was visiting from canada. he runs the cpa up there or something. he said he was the 1st member to join apa in canada. his membership number is 0001 or something like that as i recall. i was kinda proud that i was able to see a shot for her that this guy who is a 7/9 said he would not have thought of.

we all laughed when i told him she gets her self in some hellacious predicaments and i gotta come up with some hellacious shots for her to pull off.
