Samsara Break/Jump Tips - Six failed in the past month!

I've heard that Samsara tips were known to pop off occasionally, but nothing like this. I've had six installed and pop off in the past month. Three popped clean off the ferrule, completely separating from the glue. The other three split at the layers.

I had them installed on two different shafts. Tip 5 and 6 both lasted a week or two of hard breaking. Tip five lasted a good while, until I juiced it one night and off it came. Well, I got to the bar yesterday evening and recorded the very first break of the day. I had a feeling number 6 would go into orbit as well :sorry:

As you can see, I didn't break very fast and it still popped off. If you watch the leather chair, at the bar, you can see the tip fly past it. And yes, I know the ferrule still has glue on it. We went through the first 4 tips in one day and when one finally stuck, we left it alone.

I know that others have had good luck with these tips and when they do work, they work excellent. However, I'm starting to think that I should go back to phenolic or G10.

The only issue I have had with samsara on my break cue are the occasional layers that chunk off. My last tip had to reshape it twice during the life of it. If your issues are with the tips coming clean off "noteably at the ferrel", I would be more inclined to look into the person putting them on.

Btw--that place looks like a good place to play pool..Do they have some 9' too?

I had a huge issue with White Diamonds popping off after installation and a quick scoring with a razor blade before glue remedied that. But that doesn't explain the issues of the Samsara tips breaking apart.. I've a couple break and break jump cues with Samsara Break tips with no issues.. Hopefully they will take care of it.

Yea, I definitely won't be going back to the installer; Six tips is grounds for no more business. I'll be sending them to Ryan Theewen soon. I spoke with him a few days ago and I know he'll do a good job.

It's the nicest bar, around here, to hangout at and has good equipment. It used to be a bar and grill, but they shut down the restaurant, kept the bar, and added 8 Diamond barboxes. (4 red label, 4 blue label). There is enough room in the building to have a few 9 footers. My friend/APA teammate owns all of the tables and has looked into 9 footers, so we'll see

It's the most happening place for pool leagues. The APA dropbox is there and there are APA leagues Monday-Saturday. Sunday is free pool from open till close, as long as you are getting something from the bar (drinks, food, whatever).

Is it just me or you kinda miscued on the break? I once had a miscue and my Samsara tip flew out as well.

I'm 99% positive I didn't miscue. The tip/ferrule made that sound each time they popped off.

The very first one, that popped off, sounded like I broke the ferrule in half.

Ahhh.. I thought you were installing the tips. Yeah the installer is doing something wrong..

Hmm okay. My bad on that.

Of that few Samsara I've helped installed on, only mine flew out. The difference was I used Loctite on mine and Gorilla Superglue on the rest. All along I've been using Gorilla Superglue on break tips and Loctite on playing tips.

It must come down to something in the prep and install because there are quite a few stories like this where someone has consistent issues. I had one installed on my Gilbert J/B and I've been using it quite a bit since, especially practicing jumps, and I've had zero issue.

I absolutely love this tip. It breaks and jumps great and, just for fun, I played a rack with it even and was shocked at how well it plays. I could spin the ball with ease and zero miscues....sounds like you're playing with a phenolic tip but it doesn't play like one at all.

No one wants to say its "me" but the reason most tips fly off clean is mis cues. Everytime I have had a tip come off it was on a mis cue using english. It looks like you were putting bottom english on the cue ball when you broke. The harder tips don't absorb the shock very well on the outer edges of the tip and do tend to pop off. The glue job may have something to do with it (I do something with a razor blade to help) but generally speaking if you stay around center cue ball this does not happen.

I hit high right hand english. I drop my shaft to the table when I follow through.

I'd prefer to not have to hit center ball every rack.

I don't understand putting anything but maybe a little low on the cue ball on the break. You already got ball in hand and can puy the cueball wherever you want.

That's a topic for another thread.

I'm looking to see how many people out there have experienced the same issues that I have.

I've installed maybe 10 of these Samsara Tips. I've been using the same one for at least 18 months. I've had a few pop off, but none lately. I score the heck out of the bottom of the tip, and the top of the ferrule. I use a razor blade and put at least 20 to 25 scores in each ( Ferrule and tip ). I also use super glue ultra control gel on mine. When I glue the tip on, I do not put a ton of pressure on the tip when pressing it on. I put on maybe a few pounds of pressure. I believe pressing very hard pushes the glue out of the sides, and I believe that a little thicker layer of glue is better for a jump/break tip. With that little thicker layer, and the glue seeping into all of the scores that I put in with the razor, I get the best adhesion and strongest hold possible. No one has come back to me in a long while. As for the tips delaminating, or snapping between layers, that's never happened to me. It's always been the whole tip popping off of the ferrule with the glue giving out.

Good luck

Did you think that just maybe the installer was doing a bad job after the first two
came off. After the third should it have been a no brainer. :grin-square:

Delaminating sounds like a heat issue on installation. I've installed a lot of Samsaras and White Diamonds with little complications. I got away from using gel on them and haven't had a pop off in 3 years....knock on wood. Brian.

I did after the first lol

I know him personally and gave him the benefit of the doubt.
He used gorilla glue gel on the first one.
Then he used some type of "two part epoxy" on the rest.

I'm not happy with the results and I'll be sending a few shafts off, to someone reliable, for new tips/ferrules.

Were these all installed by the same guy? I had my first samsara installed 3-4 months ago or so. I estimate I've broken at least 100 racks or so with that cue and see no sign of tip failure at this point. Granted I don't break as hard as some but I sure don't baby it. I just bought another one for my new break cue but haven't had it installed yet.

Yep, same guy.

Tip 5 and 6, of the group, lasted a good 40 racks or so. I had that shaft in my case for a week, pulled it out last night to break the first rack and blammo! No more tip.

Edit- I don't know if it makes a difference, but the ferrules of both break shafts are uncapped.
