Do you think vaporizing can save a poolroom?

Not the only reason for poolroom decline, but I'm sure the no smoking bylaws had some form of impact. That being said, we have a poolhall in town that doesn't ban vaping inside. To early to tell whether this will have a positive impact on business, but one would think it couldn't hurt.

Anyone else's local hall allow this?
 
I vape. My opinion is that it could benefit the room if it's popular in the area. Otherwise people are gonna show up either way and just go outside if they can't use it inside.
 
We have a non-smoking hall here that allows the vapor smoking. It's went over very well with smokers. The hall was doing good even when they didn't have them though.
 
Personally I think that banning smoking of any kind in pool halls has little to do with the decline of the sport. First off too many people are sitting on their fat a$$es playing with their silly techno toys too much these days to do anything that would get them off of a bar stool and participate in something that takes total concentration to be good at. Go to any restaurant, movie theater, bar and check out the % of people who have a smart phone in their hand... it's staggering.
I have friends who are both smokers and shooters. They will just step outside every hour or so and smoke a quick one, but it hasn't cut one bit into their playing habit or their love for the sport. And they don't play with their toy phones when it's game on. But I'm talking about people that didn't grow up in this lazier generation that we now live in.
Also as for the decline of billiards. Try to find a deal on worthy billiard equipment on ebay and you'll see just how popular this sport still is. It just isn't going on as much in the pool halls any longer because there really aren't that many "real" pool halls left. Look at how many people have GC's, Diamonds and other big boy brand tables in their homes now compared to 15 or 20 years ago.
No, I don't think that Vaporizing can save a pool room. I don't even think that lifting the cigarette ban in pool rooms would really make much of a difference these days.
 
A local city health dept is trying to pass an ordinance to treat the electronic cigs as regular cigarettes. They cite possible health reasons but they have no proof the vapor is harmfull to others. What it amounts to is they want to fine people. It all about the money folks. And they are going to lose money if everybody uses e cigs. The pool halls here have no problem with it.
 
Ban the Vape

Smoke is smoke. I don't want to breath an unknown vapor either. I work where they allow it. It's worse on me than cig smoke.
 
After my heart attack, I quit cigarettes. Using the e cig helped me. I had 3 separate heart specialist ask if I have stopped smoking. I told them not one cigarette but been using an e cig. Not one of them had a problem with it.
 
I don't think banning cigarette smoking has anything to do with pool rooms closing down. 10 or so years ago when Maryland banned smoking in bars & restaurants it had a very very short term impact that did not hurt those bars & restaurants at all. No one I know says they don't go to a bar or restaurant because they can''t smoke. I would assume the same would hold true for pool halls or any other business.

You hit it right on the head, Diogenes.
Smoking bans had little to do with the decline in pool.
That kind of [sic] wishful thinking is by those merely looking
for an excuse against the real reason, which incidentally, you mentioned.
That is, it's a technical world we live in.
For recent generations, many have found entertainment in "Britannica Electronica" (look that up if you don't know the word).
As for the cigarette smokers, better to force them to temporarily repair outside and slowly kill themselves, if they so choose.


As for the other theme within this thread, I have eaten at a restaurant that also has a vapor room.
Personally, I don't like it. I could smell the shi**y smoke wafting all around. No way!
Would not want to deal with this while playing; no matter how "sweet" the developers try to make the smoke smell.

I've had people tell me that the vapor is just as bad, if not worse, than second hand smoke as far as it irritates their throat and lungs.
 
If people just gave up smoking, there would not be a problem.
Maybe they could then afford to buy Kamui chalk or a Kamui cue tip.
