Equally horrific to me were some of the bozo comments about the video...some pretty sick minds to celebrate the death of a police officer.

When i hear about a video like that, I just wont watch it. Not because it's a cop either. It could be a horse and im not watching it.

Here's my piece. One of them any way.

Don`t you find the trigger on the AUG a little "mushy" I have tried a few freinds AUG`s that they use for IPSC rifle shooting and the trigger is the weak point on that rifle, not sure if that is true for the newer AUG A3 though...
I prefer the SIG 551/552

May be true but what about the 2% where it didn't. I don't think just carrying a gun with the hope of scaring someone is a very good strategy. At what point does the person produce the gun? Because if it has reached the point where someone feels the need to pull a gun things have already gotten pretty hairy.

My original point was, and it would go along with what you are saying. If you have to have a gun, have one that can truly protect you. You will get the same effect you are talking about and maybe never have to fire a shot, but in the other 2 % that you point out, you want a gun that can protect you.

Just as an added note, in many states just producing the gun is going to get you locked up. I read in at least one state, simply pointing a gun at someone is considered first degree felony assault, punishable by 10-25 years in prison. So walking around flashing a gun and threatening someone with a gun every time you get nervous is a bad idea.

So back to my original comments like a zillion posts ago. Carrying a gun is serious business and one needs to really think about if it is for them. It is not a game and as much protection as one may think it provides them, it can also get them in real trouble.

Here is an example of what I am talking about. This guy just walked around with a gun in his pocket all the time like carrying his keys. He thought nothing of it. He killed a man over nothing. I bet he wishes he had never seen or owned that gun. Not to mention the family of the man he killed for nothing. Of course we also have movie theater shooting. One guy shooting another over a man using a cell phone.

By the way, I was not able to open your link. I assume although I was not able to read it, the study is dealing with rational people. Domestic stuff, robberies and so on. What about a psychotic or someone on drugs. There are police shooting all the time where some nut case with a knife or bat goes at the cops regardless of the fact they have like 4 cops with guns trained on them.

I have carried for 40 years, have had many bar fights and have only pulled it twice, when a guy pulled a knife during a fight, and where a lunatic thought he would run me off the road and beat me with a lug wrench for trying to repo my car, which they were 12 payments behind. I do know a few who will pull their weapon out every time they get into it with someone. These people are lucky to stay alive, and shouldn't be carrying. Most women should learn to shoot and get a concealed carry permit. I think most women are better off with a revolver, where all they have to do is pull the trigger. I have taught my mother and daughter to shoot and they both carry now legally. I do know there are some people who should never carry a weapon, ever.

It's a grave misnomer to underestimate a .22 round. What happens when they enter a body is they bounce around inside doing damage all over. Many people have died (slowly) from only one .22 bullet. They bleed to death internally.

Jay, is right. A 22 round can do a lot of damage. My ex-sister in law got shot in the stomach and it bounced off of many things and she ended up loosing a leg and many damaged organs. The mob used 22's for many hits.

"This is one of the most civilized threads that has went on for this long and you want to get rid of it? Dont pop in and read it."......That's what you wrote?

When the topic of guns reaches such ridiculously high number of posts in such a short time, and despite that this is the Main Forum, it is still nonetheless AZ....which stands for billiards & pool.

At some point...now or later.........however I submit now because this is bordering on excessive in scope, regardless of any and all civility being expressed or not expressed, the sponsor is still Az which doesn't relate with gun ownership or gun control or 2nd amendment issues......it's supposed to "correlate" with pool and look at these posts.......Yeah....Sure......this has become a miniature gun forum that's lost its relativity with owning cues......Come on, don't get defensive on me......read the vast plurality, majority, whatever......but guns has become the theme.

Mr. Wilson, I respectfully submit this thread has reached its saturation point and needs to start sinking.....IMO.

Matt B.

I have to ask, just out of curiosity. Why even look at it if it bothers you? Is it the fact that others can see, that bothers you? I have always wondered why a thread would bother someone, when they don't even have to click on it.

I often use the pool table as a backdrop for gun pics.
Less now that is freshly recovered

Just a small sample.......

What caliber is the gun with the scope rings and brand? You have to put the mag in your AR to make it look its best.:grin-square:

Your last line is poignant and also sets up a catch-22. In a lot of cases the person who feels compelled to always be walking around with a gun, may be the exact person who should not even own a gun.
When you get an answer to the question and all they have to say is "I have a 2nd amendment right" that is no answer. It is their right but you have to wonder why, what is the obsession?

Few of us in our entire life time will find ourselves in a situation that would require a gun. This is evidenced by the fact that so few people do carry guns and live long happy and relatively safe simple lives without the obsession of or need for a guns. Even among those that get their carry permits, few will ever actually carry a gun, even once. Many will not even go the next step and buy a gun.

Getting a carry permit lately has become somewhat of a fad. I know a guy who gives classes and I have sat in a number of times. It is interesting the mix of people who show up. and it is the same with every class he told me. You will have a husband and wife, then maybe a few girl friends that are taking it together. Then there is the ones with notebooks taking notes and listening to every word and so on.

Then there is one more type and seems to be at least one of these in every class. He shows up wearing something military. Although the closest he may have ever been to the military is a John Wayne movie. He may have a tee shirt with something like a "Don't tread no me" symbol and camouflage of some type.

It is a gun class so he is wearing what his gun costume of a stereotype he wants to fit into. He will also probably be wearing an NRA ball cap. Those are the guys who will be taking the gun carrying thing to heart. You know this guy can't wait to strap it on and go out in the world. Not to say he is a bad guy but you know he wants you to know "He is packing heat" and don't mess with me.

I think I have to cool it little, I have too many opinions on this subject and don't want to at some point say something that will hurt what has been a very civil conversation.

Wow, I thought only conservatives stereotyped.
I have more guns than you can count on fingers and toes, carry always - or at least in vehicle , don't OWN an NRA hat and never wear camo unless I'm out hunting

I know a few old guys who wear NRA hats always, and are the nices people you would ever meet.

Sounds like YOU should be able to own guns, but not anyone who disagrees with your social policy ideas.

UNLESS prohibited by one of the many laws already on the books, it's none of you're concern if a guy in camo wants to carry, if he is an idiot and commits an actual crime, he will lose that right in short order.

Here's an idea, if you don't pay into our government more than you take out, you shouldn't have the right to vote as you are basically a self imposed ward of the state. That's called " skin in the game". Catchy phrase, seems like I heard it somewhere before.

the supreme court just recently ruled that all states have to recognize any other states ccw. Although the one they have to recognize has to be the state you are a resident of...

I am not stereotyping just observing. I go to gun shows because I am sort of a gun person. Like I mentioned earlier I have a range in my back yard. When I was in the bar business I also had money on the street. People always wanted to get money on guns so I have had a zillion of them.

I have owned hundreds of guns from a Luger's to a Bar. By the way, we were out on the boat one day and my idiot brother in law sunk a bouy with it. I classify these camo guys when you are at the gun shows kind of like face painters you see at football games. They are desperate for an Identity. This is especially true if you know them. They come there playing a roll.

Sure they may be nice guys. They probably work in an office and are really nothing like the fake person they are playing at the gun show. It is just interesting. I remember when "Urban Cowboy" came out and all these people were walking around in cowboy hats. It is not that unusual for someone to seek an identity. That seems like what I see at the shows. Like I said, I am just observing.

As far as your last comment, most all people on SS and Medicare, (and this will include you) will take out everything they ever paid in and then some over not a very long time.. If they have any kind of illness this could even happen the first year they are eligible. So who are the people your comment is aimed at?

I was curious so I just went and looked it up. Today a person can expect to collect about 30% more then they paid into SS. Now if that person was to get sick, forget about it, there is no telling what they may get.
By the way if I am wrong about this please show me because I was just doing some quick reading.

funny story to lighten the mood, where my gun saved my ass -

last October, i and my designer, & her 2 daughters (25yrs old) were running errands to get our showroom ready. ricky-racing from Home Depot, grocery store, liquor store, TJMaxx, etc. we flew through a green light & down the hill. BLUE LIGHTS. and apparently for me....

my car was packed with people & crap. my designer weighed 300lbs & 5'10", so no way to get the gun in the glovebox. i did get my seatbelt on; her's wouldn't reach. this little bitty pretty female cop walked up for the drill. wrote both of us seatbelt tickets & then also nailed me for expired plates (we'd been travelling so much that i had just sent $30 & hadn't checked mail for the sticker). my designer (she's a little outspoken), wanted to argue that she was from Atlanta. i told her to shhh. i said thank you, Officer. done.

we went straight to KK9's house to pick up his car. i immediately popped the trunk & poured a drink. lit 2 cigarettes. called the shrm & KK9 to tell them we'd been pulled by Greensboro's finest (they are supposed to give us Market people preferential treatment!), and we'd be late.

then i called my atty (better known as my best friend Joel). the tickets were $165/ea, plus appearance w/ proof of registration. i told him to make them go away - court date was DEC 6 (Mosconi & my son's birthday). he said: give me something to go on?

1) concealed weapon b/w seat & console
2) illegal switchblade in my pocketbook
3) 20 gallons of tequila in the trunk for the margarita machine (the legal limit to transport is 4)
4) open container in the backseat
5) my designer has fibromyalgia, so her pocketbook's full of all kinds of prescriptions
6) insurance had lapsed (again, we'd been travelling a LOT)
7) designer's 300lbs & the seatbelt wouldn't reach; mine was on by the time she approached
8) i'm pretty sure i was 10mls over the speed limit

he called the cop directly, and all charges were dropped the next day.
;)

an unrecognized genius said the same thing back on post 142-When the mob hit you with a 22-it was from EXTREMELY close range in the back of the head though

Ok..we have guys who know a ton.

Anyone want a crack at this? ( if you've been to my house...zip it. )
