Rap group Wu-Tang Clan recently announced that they would only be making one copy of their latest album. They've stated that the buyer would have free rights to do whatever they please with the album. They can make copies and sell it, or share it for free. They can keep it all to themselves if they want. Totally up to the buyer.

Now imagine this very hypothetical pool related scenario

Scenario:

Shane and Dennis O. agree to play an all around ($5,000/set winner take all). The match would be played in a room away from spectators. The only ones in the room with the players would be the camera operator and the commentators. Let's say the commentators would be JJ, Scott Frost, and Billy Incardona. The games and format would be as follows (although not necessarily in this order)

10 Ball - Race to 100
8 Ball - Race to 50
One Pocket - Race to 15
Short Rack Banks - Race to 10
14.1 - Race to 500

The entire match would be put on a HD Blu Ray set, but only one copy of the set would be made. Would you be interested in buying it, and how much would you pay if it went to auction?
 
You would have to build the match up, couldn't be just another event. I think there would have to be more than money at stake. Fans love a good rivalry then it would need to be a unbelievable match a must see. Need a comeback or a big drama . have an outrageous prop bet. Play for cues.. I like that one. Loser loses his gear. :D.. Just my thoughts.

No, you wouldn't be able to view the entire match, but maybe a 2 minute highlight reel would be released. The whole purpose of this hypothetical match being an all around is to ensure you'd see some great pool. Sure it's possible there might be a blowout or two, but I think overall each match would be close.

Assuming that "$5,000/set winner take all" means a $25,000 prize fund, you certainly wouldn't recoup your prize fund expenses (if it's $5,000 for the whole thing...well, that's too much pool to play for just $5,000).

Let's say I pay $25,000 for the rights. That means I have to sell 250 units at $100 per unit just to break even -- highly unlikely. The biggest risk I'd being taking is that after the first few sales (or probably before) word leaks out about the winner and score. The more lopsided the score, the fewer buyers.

It would be a gambling match, so no prize fund. Each player or their backer(s) put up the money. Not in the hopes they can make money off the sale of the DVD, but in the hopes that they can actually beat the other guy and come out ahead.

I did say it's a very hypothetical scenario, but not an impossible one, since I don't think either player is afraid to step up and play the other.
 
Interesting concept...except the word would spread quickly about who won.

As far as the rap group is concerned, I'd be perfectly happy if there was none. :rolleyes:
 
I wouldn't pay anything for it.

What I would pay for is if these guys played in a pool hall with a few spectators and anything goes. Drinking, smoking, shooting the shit and outright using their own money.

There would need to be some sort of drama. This scenario would be another boring TAR match.

Others have mentioned that and I guess I didn't put too much thought into the results being released. The way I see it is Accu-Stats gives the winner and score of most matches, and they are still able to sell DVDs.
