AzB'rs,

Whenever my mind goes to where the lifelines of pool lay - It always counts among it the most versatile and creative routes and the people who build and maintain them.

None have been more so than those that created and comprise this forum.
I know that when I fight to regain lost ground for pool, I do not do so alone and in vain.
My frustrations tempered by knowing others are here with me, doing.

While filming the greatest legends and players around the world for my documentary
"Raising the Hustler", there was never a time where I didn't think we would grow as a sport, a game and as a community-this is what drives me and fuels my passion to elevate pool to the level it merits.

By loving my people enough to showcase them through film, I can only see a resurgence in our sport.
(if you've ever held a cue and smiled, YOU are my people)

Many of you know me personally, others, I have not yet had the pleasure to encounter,
but if you're reading this and you love pool and the people who play,
know that I'm happy to be among you.

If you live in Chicago, J-Flo is organising our AzB Forum Get-Together at
Chris's Billiards, my home room -where many scenes from Scorsese's
"The Color of Money" were filmed (1986)
and where "Raising the Hustler" begins ;)

Thank you,

-Angel Levine

Angel I am your biggest fan! Your presence at our gathering would be awesome and I really hope you can make it!

But I can't take credit for this Chicago meet and greet...this is our friend J-Flo who is organizing it, and is doing a wonderful job.

I will assist any way I can, and am totally looking forward to seeing one's from the last meet, and meeting new friends.

First off let me say very nice post.

AS a pool player and pool fan I would like to say thank you for you're
dedication and determination to bring pool and it's greats to the forefront.

I wish you the very best of luck with your film, and can't wait to see it.
Also good luck with the get together, and last but certainly not least,
I hope you are taking good care of that man-melting voice of yours,
only heard it once but it left a lasting impression.

Although she probably doesn't realize it, (because I've never told her outright) Angel is one of my personal heroes. Which to me means a lot because I don't really idolize that many people.

Pool is an American staple and has been from the founding of this great country. Not unlike church on sunday morning, it has devout followers and part time worshippers. Not unlike rock n roll music and its polar opposite, country and western, pool permeates every gender, class and culture. Not unlike a family reunion, some pool families are very large and some have dwindled down to a single soul. Not unlike political parties, some players are progressive, some are traditional, some are liberal and some are independent. And not unlike artists, some are naturally talented while others must study and practice, some are impressionistic while still others are surrealistic, and still others are architects and designers

Pool and billiards represents everything we hold dear and everything we fear. Pool and billiards represents the very core of human existence; the joy, the pain, the journey and the destination, the life and the death of us all, thru a medium of simple yet ingenious complexity.

Who are we without a beautiful challenge to overcome, a puzzle to solve, or chaos to organize and conquer? We would be nobody but bodies floating thru space and time.

And who are we but the very same individuals who have lived and breathed pool and billiards in the past. Angel is telling the story of you, and me, and all of the players we encounter in our lifetime with this game. In other words, It's the story of us.

And to tell that story requires a special kind of love. Selfless love. And respect, and honor, above and beyond what most people are capable of embracing for and about the self absorbed pigs that we tend to be.

Words alone cannot describe the beauty that dwells in the heart of a woman such as Angel, who has been so aptly and appropriated named. I wish her the very best and only hope that someday I can give her back a fraction of what she is giving of herself.

Here's to you Angel.
It has been an inspiration and an honor to know you.
