Masters chalk blows... I'm done

I know chalk is a petty issue that has been discussed heavily...but I need suggestions.

I've got grey cloth on my table, and the only grey chalk I know of is Masters. I put away the blue diamond and tried to make a dedicated switch to the cheap stuff.

Sure, blue stains the ferrule.. and it really clashes on light grey cloth... but it also stays on your cue tip! I feel like 50% of the Masters explodes onto my table on every shot. It's even more apparent when I brush it.

Any other options out there? Predator yellow I guess?

How about replacing cloth with a more conventional green or blue? Then you can use any brand of chalk you prefer.

You have two options when it comes to grey chalk. Masters or Silver Cup.

Changing the cloth would be a more expensive route, but it's the better route.

Predator chalk works fine. Very little mess left on the table and cue. But i have blue cloth so it works for me. try it with the grey, it might not be as bad as you think.

I don't think I've ever watched how much chalk gets in places other than the tip. I just watch for how well the tip gets covered and how well it stays on after the shot. Next time I play I'll watch for the dust cloud of Masters when I hit. Never had an issue with ferrule staining either, only time that happens when you use a worn cube and don't brush carefully.

You may be right about the worn cube staining the ferrule since that's all my league pool hall has to offer. After using blue diamond exclusively for about a year.. I can tell a huge difference in the "stickiness".

Try chalking REALLY well with Masters and look at the cloth following the line of the cue ball after you hit it. Now multiply that little streak by every shot you take. I find myself scuffing the cue tip repeatedly just so that it will hold the chalk.

So really, the cheap chalk is possibly costing me more money over time! MFers!

You are absolutely correct about the huge chalk streak after every shot. I have some light green Masters I prefer but since changing to dark green cloth it makes a terrible mess. Now I use NIR blue.

This is your fault - all your fault - and only your fault.

Though I wouldn't care for grey cloth - the cloth isn't the problem.

Learn how to chalk a tip right and all difficulties will be resolved.

I never said the cloth was the problem.. I'm saying masters chalk sucks, Dale. You're saying I'm over chalking. Sure. I know I am... b/c it sucks, Dale.

So, you think Grey Master chalk sucks. You don't like that your blue chalk leaves marks. You don't want to change cloth colors. I gave you alternative, Silver Cup Grey chalk. That's your only other alternative. Deal with it or change the cloth.

Unless this is a parody thread and it went over my head.

Still wrong. Master is a perfectly good chalk.

The one and only problem is you don't know how to use it.

Learn how to chalk a tip correctly, and you will not have any problems.

I think that all Masters chalk sucks, and I appreciate your suggestion on the Silver Cup... It's worth a try. I wouldn't mind changing cloth, but that's an expensive fix. My cloth is new and the color was chosen by my wife. (so that the new table could go in the living room)

IMHO most people would be very surprised at how little chalk it takes to have enough chalk on your cue. You only need a very thin coat -- anything more is just fluff that lands on your cloth.

One of the guys in my playing group applies chalk like a woman applies lipstick -- very carefully and very thick. And yes, every time he strikes the CB you see a cloud of blue smoke. He still miscues occasionally but I guarantee it's not due to a lack of chalk (which he blames it on ).

You can try other brands of chalk but you'll probably experience the same problem. Try chalking very lightly and see what you think.

Yep that Master chalk is so bad, that's why they use it most everywhere. LOL

I literally cannot believe how bad Silver Cup chalk is.

Set up some shots with moderate to extreme English and shoot them several times, with Masters chalk. No problem. Then, with the same cue and shooting the same shots, use Silver Cup chalk. Miscues all over the place.

It's so bad I don't understand how it remains on the market.

It's cheap... just like the awesome house cues they use everywhere.

The good players in rooms all over could use any chalk they want but amazingly they
still use the master chalk. I guess now you'll say that's because it's free. LOL

Enjoy you're grey cloth, and have a great day.

That's kinda sad imho. The wife picks out the color of the cloth for your pool table? You could have bought a grey table cover, that solves everything.....

Hey, I don't blame you though, I got lots of friends that married their "mothers" and need permission to take a piss.... I just never understood it, and still don't ??
