how are ya'll doing in league ?

That just plain sucks. Shitty attitude and way under handicapped, what a combo. You handled it better than I would have...

(BTW, without checking my rulebook, I'm pretty sure the 3 should have been dead. Play the cue ball where it lay, since it was a legal hit. At least I think that's the rule, we had to look it up a while ago...)

I've read it before and I was almost positive it was a dead ball, but at the tournament they had told me it was spotted. I think, under WPA rules, it's spotted and it's ball in hand.

I offered them the rule book to clarify, but the declined. Ohhh wwweeeelllllll :embarrassed2:

Our team is currently in second place out of 14. Its a non handicapped league and standing are based on games won / lost as opposed to nights won / lost.

We really should be in first as there are some damn decent players on the team and overall I think we have the best team int he league by a pretty decent margin.

Our issue has been coming together as a team and playing in a league as we all took a VERY long break from league play before deciding to come back together to play a session. A lot of the teams we are playing have been steady for years.

It took a little bit of time to get us to gel together but we are coming on strong.

Ball is spotted at foot spot and play continues. No foul. No BIH.

Guy sounds like a real *****.

Now I gotta go dig out my rulebook.... :p

In 8b, the ball stays down, iirc. I always wanted to try using that on purpose in 9b.

As for me..

Had our Tri-Cup tourney last weekend. On Saturday night, both of my teams played to face each other on Sunday morning. If they both won, I'd be guaranteed a team heading into regionals and I wouldn't have to wake up early since I couldn't attend the match. Well, one team won in sudden death and the other lost. Showed up the next day and we lost again. Sucks. I started out 0-2 in the tournament and won my last 4, I think it was.

Tuesday, I played a 5 that my other teammates didn't want to play("he wins too much") and got a shutout shooting decently. Last night, I had a few things on my mind and my shooting was off, so I was a bit pissy during my masters match and sucked donkey balls to lose 2-7. Ugh.

Well, we have LTC tonight at 7, and then again tomorrow morning at 730 sigh....going to potentially be a long weekend. We are in the larger bracket so we need to win 5 to go to Vegas. Our 2 won't be there Saturday so that means (for 8 ball) we will have 7654333 to work with which gives us a little wiggle room...we just can't play 765xx without the 2 there. With the new points system it might not make sense to play me as often since we may need 2-3 points so that would mean if I played a 4 I would have to win 5-0....pretty damn tough to fade that. The last 4 I played I won hill/hill and the one game she won was in 1 inning lol.

so that would mean if I played a 4 I would have to win 5-0....pretty damn tough to fade that.

I'm beginning to understand that the APA really is geared toward the lesser players and that's why there is so much sandbagging. At the same time, though, that's why there are so many players.

Point being, I'd venture to say an APA handicap is far from any players true speed; Even a SL2.

^^ for the most part I agree. Even though I was out of the loop for a few years in league, right away I am able to tell pretty much who is sandbagging or not. There are a lot of players in my league who are 1-2 handicaps lower than they should be. I like the challenge, but meh sometimes its sort of sh*tty playing someone who plays maybe 1 level lower than me, but I am spotting them 2-3 games. Oh well, it's just a game. I wouldn't be surprised if my 82% didn't drop to like 72% or even 65% in the next two years if I keep playing...just beyond tough playing as a 7 to consistently win 4 out of 5 matches as an estimate.

Meh. If he played his usual game and they played theirs, 5-0 shouldn't be too tough. It just gets tough real quick when you screw up and give them a game or they get hot and win one. I kinda felt like I had to get past some decent 6's last weekend and lost to two 7's. The thing is, I had opportunities to win against the 7's and gave the 6's more chances than I should have.

When you get into those LTC tournaments, you're usually playing people that are decent for their level.

our 8 ball ltc starts next fri...the 13th at 8;00 pm with finals being held monday the 16th at 8 pm.

9 ball is the same schedule and is held the week after 8 ball.

i had 3 players who quit after the last session but are still eligible for cities. i have no idea who will or will not show up.

what we have eligible is 7...6...5...5...4...3...3...3. the players that i am confident will be there are 5...5...3...3.

most of the players on this team went to vegas last year for 9 ball but we never managed to qualify for 9 ball ltc this year.

LTC recap:

Well LTC is in the books and our team did decent, but I know as a whole we are disappointed we didn't do better.

Friday night for our first match we played a team with a few friends of mine all 4s (a couple 1 handicap lower than they should have been), so I knew it was going to be a tough match. Also we had our 5 that accidentally got signed up for a 6 so since the scores were already printed he had to play this match as a 6 and then it would change in the next match...sick, but nothing we could do. We ended up being tied after 4 matches with our 3 losing, another 3 winning, my wife who is a 4 winning, and then our 6 losing. I had to play one game sudden death due to the time. I won the lag and broke dry. Their was a bit of a cluster near the main area at the bottom of the rack. My opponent shot his first shot which was a stripe in a sort of thin cut but he hit it hard and took a funny angle scratching in the side so it was ball and hand and open.

I decided to continue with stripes shooting a breakout and then really gauging the table to decide then if I was going to go for the out or play a safe sometime in my run. It looked runnable with the only issue getting shape on the 8. I ended up running out, getting a little funky on my last ball. I thought I could make it if I threw it in with a bit of left after talking to my coach. I ended up making it with a bit of low to slide the cue ball off the rail and back behind the area I needed to be for shape on the 8. I had a shot on it in the side with a bit of an angle. Now I saw our table had a bit of a roll earlier so I did not want to hit it soft and have it roll off a bit to hit the tit so I hit it firm and drilled it. I did a fist pump as my team all yelled out loud. It was a cool moment and I am glad I performed under pressure since I don't really play at all anymore, definitely not like I used to.

We played Saturday morning against a team we had played before that upset a better team the previous night. It was 730 in the morning, their throw and they threw their 6. I had the look of shock on my face as well as my team. Why the hell would they throw their highest handicap first who I torched 5-1 with 2 break and runs the time we played during the session?? Well I had to play and started off very rusty blowing the first two games. That woke me up though and I won the next 5 to win the match and get 2 to 0 points wise. Our 3 won sort of by default as the guy S8 on her. Our other 3 lost, and my wife who is a 4 won. We only needed our 6 to win 1 game to guarantee they didn't beat us 3-0 to which he did.

The next match we played was with a team that had 2 players under handicapped. They had a 4 that played like a 6 and won a crucial match 3-0 after we were tied 3-3 after the first two matches. So we needed our 5 to win and then our 6 was going to have to win another sudden death match due to the time. Our 5 lost hill hill in a very tough close fought match so we were out. We played decently well and did close to where I expected, but I know a few are disappointed that we didn't go farther. Maybe next time.

Sorry for the novel recap.
Matt

It was a little disappointing

  • I mean we won the city by 12 points (APA).
  • Then I won Top shooter 91% win percentage.
  • Oh and we dominated at states LOL... OH yea!!!

I would like to thank Randy G and Lee Brett without who's help I could have never done the aforementioned feats. And the academy, oh wait that's the wrong speech...
Anyway yay me...

^^^^^,what he said spimp. on the bright side there is always next year.

played my napa laggers choice league sat. i won the lag and chose 8 ball of course. :D

5-3 match and i won 5-0. i did not play that great...my opponent just played worse.

if you have been keeping up with my ramblings you know that i quit being captain of my sunday night apa double jeapordy team and turned it over to my g/f.

after our beat down in both 8 and 9 ball last week my g/f asked my advice on matching up last night. last week we lost 8 ball 12-2 and 9 ball 68-32.

to keep this short i just want to point out some matching up i suggested instead of the whole enchilada.

3rd match they threw a 5 in 8 and an 8 in 9 ball. my g/f asks what to do. i said throw our 4 on their 5 and you play the 8. .... she is a 3. our 4 wins 3-1 and she loses.15-5.

i told her to throw me right away after she lost. all they had available was 2-3' s due to the 23 rule their 6 could not play. their 5 was still playing 8 ball so they had no choice but to throw their best 3. i won 15-5...same score their 8 beat her by. she wanted to throw our last 3 against their last 3 since there 5 was still playing 8 ball. and i said no throw our other 5 and lets put them away. he wins 16-4 with us winning 9 ball 55-45. we lost 8 ball 7-6.

oh yea... i played their 7/8 in 8 ball and won 3-2.

after wards she and i sat there and talked. i pointed out 4 things to her about the difference between this week and last week.

1. this weeks opponent is a lot stronger than last weeks.

2. this weeks opponent had a supposed advantage of playing on 9 footers every week. we only play on 9's when we face this team twice a session. yet we won 9 ball and only lost 8 ball by 1 point.

3. you have to know your opposing players playing ability vs who you have available.

4. you have to stop and think who is available to play and who is not under the 23 rule after every match up.....and in the case of double jeapordy will a certain player be available for either 8 or 9 at a given time.

the key point in our match ups was the 3rd round when they threw their 8 and my g/f wanted to throw me...being the best player on our team. i told her i may or may not have won but i was willing to sacrifice a sure loss for a sure win instead of maybe 2 losses in a row. if i lost to their 8 i dont think either of our 3's can beat their best 3.

she is starting to realize that you have to do a whole lot of thinking about matching up if you want to be competitive.

Funny you should ask

So if you remember last week (I know you don't j/k) when I had to give up like 65 balls and lost needing only 4, well this week (yesterday/sunday) was almost the same.

Local 14.1 in-house league and I had to play the weakest play in a race 125-39, and yes I was worried. But, I quickly forgot about the spot and just shot pool, this worked out good until down to the end where I just lost focus. Well, end result I pulled it off 125-38 so I'm on top of the world right now.

great shooting.

i played my apa travel league last night. 4-4 race i lost 4-3. made a couple of mistakes that cost me.:(

tonight i played my napa laggers choice league.i won the lag. my captain complained i choose 8 ball too much and my handicap keeps going up every week. started this session around a ....53 i think ? i am a 60 now in 8 ball.

i chose 9 ball since its my lowest handicap. 3-3 race and i won 3-0. :grin-square:

the win tonight puts me in 1st place in points standings with a 9-2 record.

my sat napa record is 2-2. there are a lot tougher opponents in sat league vs wed night league. 20th in points on saturday.

to all my fellow forum members who are going to the napa nationals i wish you luck. i am eligible to go but unfortunately i can not make it due to apa ltc this next weekend.

let us know how you fared in atlanta this next week.

Good job.

Lost my first 8-ball match of the session in APA travel league Monday 2-0 against a fellow three. I won the lag, made three high balls of the break. Shot at the 11 which was sitting just inside the side pocket. Hit it too hard, and the cue ball rolled straight down the rail, knocking the 8 into the corner. Sucked. Lost the next game, had maybe 1 ball in the corner. The team match, they wiped the floor with us. They had several new guys who were already under handicapped as 2s.

Lost my 9-ball match Tuesday. Got there early to practice my break on the 9ft, then ended up having to play on the 7 ft out front, since they were supposed to use the back room for officers' meeting and election. Played against a guy I played before in 8-ball who I knew was a strong starter. Barely won the lag. I hit too easy, but he slammed it. Could not get my break to work that night. That table plays funny, and I think I was thrown off by the practice earlier. I made a few early 9s which helped me stay in it. The opponent also got moved from a 4 to a 2 in one week. Ended up losing 19-19 for a 14-6 match. I think it took around 15 innings. Team also lost.

Looking forward to seeing how we do in 9-ball. Even though all but one of us are new to the 9-ball league, we have a good team. 8-ball, I'm tired of my team always being also rans.

Showed up to our 9-ball match at 6:30pm (1 hour early to practice).
It was 10:30pm before our fourth match started and they weren't planning on playing me.
Why do people do that? I was there for four hours and you can't tell me that I don't need to play? WTF

When you say they weren't planning on playing you, do you mean they knew all along or after they threw their 4th match or? If they had a lineup in mind all along sure, but most teams see who throws and how the matches go win/loss wise to determine who they want to throw throughout the night which might include making a decision on the 4th/5th matches late.

Breathe 2-pack Dave, breathe!! :D
