What speed am I?

First, you're not new, so the OP is somewhat sketchy to begin with. As for the results, without evidence of a video, I'd be surprised if you're playing the ghost properly if you were new. My apologies, but the whole thread seems a bit bogus to me and more of an attempt to brag and impress people than a legitimate question. Just my opinion.

I think some people went pro after playing the game after two years. It is very possible that he is telling the truth. Some people just learn quicker than others.

I dont want this thread going the wrong way. Im trying to not be a part of the problem that is going on in pool with people sandbagging. I just want to start playing some more and was looking for a place to start. Ive seen what people said are good sixes to middle of the road sevens and think i might fall in there.

I, too, have been playing for 2 years. And I bought an 8' diamond pro-am for my house in february and practice on it daily. I can absolutely not beat the 9b ghost in a race to 10, let alone 4 times in a row. I used to think I was progressing quickly until I read this post, and now I'm in a deep state of depression and think I should probably just give up and sell my table/cues. Wow.

Try some equal offense. And if you have room get a 9' table.

Probably an 8.

Went from an apa 4 last month to whooping on the ghost? You must be on your way to Hard Times.

Ftr, I'm a 9 and I don't think I've beaten the ghost yet, but I also hate 9b and rarely try the ghost.

A little harder break to get the 1 off the rail, where is your cueball stopping?

Center tableish, but it seemed like i would have been in trouble on many of the racks without bih. When i would try hitting them a bit harder thats when i seemed like something would want to tie up.

I don't have the room. The OS 8 fits, but the 9 would have been too tight. It's a 16x20 outbuilding. But even if I could fit it, I would have to get divorced in order to buy it after just dropping 6k on the 8'.

What is "equal offense"?

This is not what im looking for! I just want to play the right race with people. Ive been crushed by 9s.

So let me see if I got this right. You were an APA 4 last month, and this month you can beat the 9b ghost in a race to 10 4 times in a row. But you get crushed by 9s? What are you playing as when getting crushed by 9s? None of this makes any sense.

So, are you looking to play somebody that whoops the ghost? As a 4, you'll either get destroyed or need something like the break and the 4-out, maybe even the 3 and a couple games.

Here we go, the ghost plays no safe, gives bih after the break, has no way of making you sweat while playing them. Im playing at home with 0 to think about but playing and having fun. And for the last part, im just playing people in my area that are good players. Not for anything but more than trying to get better for me but the part of playing sombody real changes things.

I would suggest 1, to get rid of the magic rack and use a traditional rack and not soft break. Soft breaking is not supposed to be allowed in APA and it can inflate ones ability to runout.

That being said, 9s can destroy other 9s so that is not a good measuring stick. APA 9ball ratings is based on your balls per inning average. If you exceed 4.5 balls run per inning on average you are a SL9.

Taking your scores of 10-4, 10-4, 10-5, and 10-6 that means you had 21 innings (4+4+5+6). You pocketed at least 400 balls (while as you probably pocketed several on the 21 racks you didn't win, I will assume no balls pocketed for analysis). So if you divide 400/21 = 19 balls per inning. That is over 3 time the minimal average for a SL9.

Personally, I am a SL9 and I beat the ghost most times I play, but not all. For two years, that is some amazing progress. That performance would have to be considered A-level play. Like I said though, get rid of the magic rack and hit the rack with some speed to see where you really are at.

If beating the ghost, as you say you did 4 times in a row, is indicative of your normal play, you're a strong 9 in most apa leagues.

The ghost plays no safes. A 9 doesn't play any safes either if he can't get to the table, which is what you're saying if you're beating the ghost 10-3,10-4. Sorry, but I just don't believe you. I don't know what reason you would have to lie, but none of it makes any sense. Post a video and prove me wrong.

Thanks for the input but i have a question. How do you figure combos into that?

Oh, I think this is starting to make sense now. You've perfected Corey Deuel's 9b barbox softbreak with the magic rack and you have a wired 9b combo on the 2,3, or 4ball every rack. Nevermind the video, it now makes sense, but it is impossible to tell your speed based on this.

No sir, but i did play them when i was able. I didnt keep track of how many of them ended up in short rack but it was a couple per set for sure. Is this not the way to play the ghost?
