Racking clock

We all are familiar with a shot clock but Im think there should be a rack clock. The big argument for the shot clock is to make play less boring for tv audience and to make matches end in a reasonable time. I watch a ton of matches on You Tube and after watching Frost and Shuff spend over a minute racking the balls I got to thinking about this. The worst part of that was having to look at shuffs ass because he was sagging, his underwear hanging out of the back of his droopy jeans. He then finally got the magic rack the way he wants and proceeds to break and breaks dry. Go figure. I think 30 second rack clock should be considered. That happen to be the 10th rack, so that means that I sat watching racking for 10 minutes. I know this sounds crazy but I was wondering if anyone else had the same thoughts. Just wondering.

I think this could be implemented IF using the magic rack OR playing on fairly fresh cloth. However, in your opinion, what do you think should happen if a player is able to manipulate the rack and the other player wants him to rerack?

Most top players know about magic racks issues but it seems that to manipulate the balls in the rack it takes time to get them to were you have that advantage, so with a short enough time period and a stiff penalty for violating the rack clock(loss of the break), maybe it would stop all the bs that is going on with racking the balls.

Hopefully that is the case. I like neutral rackers using the magic rack. It takes away a lot of the BS and speeds the game up.

I agree with the opening poster.

The solution though, for all the reasons stated herein already (dodgey cloth etc) is to lower the importance of the break in a frame.

Magic Rack -- Yes

Rack Clock -- Yes - 20 seconds once the rack hits the table

Shot Clock -- Yes - 20 seconds from last shot

That's my 20 cents.

I guess you didn't just watch the semi finals of the World 9-Ball. Table 1
The ref took longer to rack with the magic rack than with reg rack.

Almost every rack the players had to have the ref fix the rack,
even after taking all that time, a joke.

Having refs is good I think, but if you're going to have them at least have competent
refs, other wise have the opponent rack.

Hear, hear -- definitely in favor of a Rack Clock. 20-30 seconds.

If you violate it, your opponent gets to break.

I wasn't the refs fault at Qatar. It was those too thin flimsy ass racks they were using. The thing bows in and out, buckles and on smooth cloth the balls barely touch the rack. Johnnyt

Whats Next?

Chalk clock -- 10 seconds
Chalk strokes -- 5 strokes or 10 seconds which ever comes first.

Just my 2 cents also

With a chalk clock....Charlie Williams would need the 6 from everybody....
...sometimes he RE-CHALKS three times....
....and even blind people knows when he's doing it...SQUEEEEEEEK

How about a clock like in chess. total time per game and if you run out of time you lose. Say 4 minutes per player. If he wants to spent it chalking than thats all he gets. Im sure nothing will change but its nice to think about it once in a wile.

I noticed that when watching the replays. It seems weird because the tables should be almost brand new, and the magic racks should be fresh. Maybe the refs in Qatar aren't too competent as tournament hosting is fairly new to Qatar. In my experience, the tournaments both men and women in Taiwan never seem to have a problem. I guess it is a different story when you need to have a license to referee pool games in Taiwan.
