The Touch Of Inside - How to Experience the Aiming Aspect?

.there are common denominators in most everything.

Even breathing takes practice.

What's ironic is how poorly most people breathe, even after practicing it over and over.

This is why it's important to understand techniques like TOI, it expands one's ability to other things in their life better......there are common denominators in most everything.

My point was that your not going to jump from one shaft to another without some changes unless they play the same. You agree??

Toi can be adapted to a lot of shots, but just like any other method of shooting balls in,it requires a lot of practice.

No secret here....Practice is the teacher.

For me its more like SOI (suggestion of inside). You wouldn't think such a small placement of the tip would make such a huge impact, but it does. I've been doing this for a few months now and my game has reached previously unattainable levels. No kidding, a suggestion of inside is the teacher.

I agree.....I think I'll just keep riding along with this TOI. It works great for me and I've been robbing most everybody. I even bought another of those goofy dragon covered pool sticks from Walmart to shoot with. (No need for the Predator...it arouses too much attention)
By the way, it took me all of 15 minutes to 'adjust' to using the crummy cue.
But the gravy train is soon coming to an end..."they" are starting to back off from all those big spots they used to hand out to the "silly old man in the veterans hat". The pond is going dry...

Controlled breathing is a sure fire method to increase focus and concentration. It actually energizes me when I'm starting to feel a little tired. I get a lift, like a cat nap, as the autopilot kicks in.

I tell people about this and they look at me like I'm a loonie. My students know what I'm talking about usually about brown belt. Their eyes get big and the energy/focus level increases.

Like TOI, it's a physical thing that shapes your mental processes. If you don't engage the gears and do the work, the mind doesn't grasp the outcome. Thinking about it won't let the non-user in on the "secret". Sounds like pool mysticism and bs!

You won't know unless you try it, as they say. But, that's another thread and definitely a TOI basher!

Best,
Mike

YES......you are so right!
Training like an athlete makes better pool players....just check out the youthful guys of today's game. Especially the Asians.
Sixty years ago when I was in a prize ring, this was something that was hammered into our heads by trainers. PLANNED, CONTROLLED, BREATHING............does exactly what you state here.
I get great comments from people at the old folks home where I teach exercise classes. They are amazed at being energized from it. And some of those folks are in their 90's.
Good post from you.
(Of course the pool shooting masses will dismiss it as poppycock, while they keep sucking on their cigarettes as they try to outdrink the breweries' production levels)

Poppycock! Sounds good to me! My motto is use it, or lose it.

Some players use breathing techniques that they've personalized to get themselves into "the zone." While it's a well known fact that breathing will calm a person down and stress causes shallow breathing, most people don't research a valuable tool at their disposal to heighten their physical and mental performance. We all breathe, some better than others. And last I checked...air is free. :grin-square:

I have a simple trigger to start my concentration when I'm in a stressful situation or competition. I take in air through my nose only and out through my mouth, slowly. How many times have we heard or seen this done? A thousand? It works.

If you do this rhythmically for a while, you'll notice a surge in your heart and a slight increase in your energy level. There's a reason for that and there's a lot more you can do with it. From there you can discover many more ways to play better pool, run longer and faster, swing a bat faster, etc.

I didn't invent this. It was taught to me and only by doing it, will you understand and benefit from it. You can't think about it and armchair QB it. When you've figured it out over time, you will be physically and mentally changed. No, this ain't no infomercial and I'm not selling a DVD.

You'd be surprised how many top pool players and athletes have used this over the years.

Best,
Mike

only then will our minds adjust and be able to use this as a weapon

Yes, actually the more precise your stoke gets the less TOI you'll need to get the desired results. What it teaches the practitioner in the process is how much they've missed before because of not understanding this phenomenon well enough. The only way to utilize deflection is to use it every chance you have for a period of time......only then will our minds adjust and be able to use this as a weapon instead of an excuse.

This is exactly where my game has been heading the last couple of months. After using TOI for quite a while, I found I'm hardly deflecting the cue ball at all anymore. My ability to hit accurately on the cue ball has improved to the point that my pocketing percentage has improved about 20%. That's huge!

I've found with this accuracy, I'm able to hit more shots at center ball and mainly use TOI for position play. I cinch balls with no spin better and can go back to TOI if I'm having an off night occasionally. The TOI is easy to use to calibrate why I'm missing my shots by where they are hitting on the pocket. A lot tougher to do with center ball. I'm not sure if I put what spin on the cue ball to make it move off of the shot line. What? You can do that with TOI versus center ball?

By consistently hitting the cue ball with TOI, I've trained my mind/stroke to get very close to hitting a repeatable spot on the cue ball. Who knew? sFun_crazydance.gif

.the cue ball will do anything we think or know.

Yes, you are experiencing the deepest levels of TOI training. Basically the outcome is for our minds and bodies to synchronize so we get the sensation that the game is expressing it's self through us.....the cue ball will do anything we think or know.

WIthout familiarizing our inner mind to the inside of the cue ball this isn't going to happen fully....one way or another we have to do what's uncomfortable to graduate to the next level.....this is true in whatever we pursue in life. 'The Game of Life is the Teacher'

pocket billiards is simply a game/sport/art form that can be perfected every day.

So many people wish their bodies were designed to play pool.....however, I'm positive that's not the reason humans were put on this earth (to play pool).....pocket billiards is simply a game/sport/art form that can be perfected every day.

Learning the proper use the fundamentals, techniques and systems of the game will speed up improvement....."If it feels right {in pool}, it's probably wrong" - 'The Game is the Teacher'

Ain't that the truth....I've preached this so many times. If it looks right it's probably wrong.Need to teach yourself the wrong looks thats right.
I gotta friend who's is constantly falling for this. He shoots at everything like he's center ball aiming. Guess what??? Bad results. Wont stop, wont ever get better.

Shane and many other players focus on the shadow make on the table

Yes, the pool shot is actually an illusion....it's not actually as it appears. What 's really cool is there's ways to use this to our advantage and make the "look of the shot" fit our eye. Shane and many other players focus on the shadow make on the table by the ball....this has some amazing aspects to it, although I do the same thing using the center or edge of the object ball with TOI.
