Fair to get bumped off your table by the league?

I would play somewhere else too. You should have been notified ahead of time, it's not your (the customers) job to know everything going on in the room, it's the management's job to make sure ALL customers are kept happy.
I'm sure the players at this room and the other room/s are going to hear about it and some are not going to go there to avoid this happening to them. They will lose more than one customer over this.

I doubt that, if they do it'll just be the whiny ones and who cares about that.
They probably should have given the op a heads up at about 2:30 or so.
What were you playing for and what was the race?

There are always tables reserved for league play wherever there is a league. My usuall hang out puts up notices on the table lights to tell people about two hours ahead. That asside, I thought that the comment that stood out the most that nobody commented on was that the OP said they were playing from noon to three and only had twenty games in?

Lol. League player IS the definition of whiny player

I am still curious about the 3:00pm thing. If the league starts at 7:00 that is a very early time to take over the table for practice. Since he was asked to give up the table by a player and not a worker or owner I wonder if they (owner / worker) even knew this happened?

I wonder how many tables are in this place?

Also if he has been there since noon and league starts at 7:00 perhaps it did not occur to them he might still be on the table when league time arrived?

I have never been on a league that started before 7:00pm.

Not unusual, 20-games in three hours.
First they warmed up with one game of 1-pocket, then in the last hour, they played 19-games of 9ball><

That's funny! I know you meant that in jest, I have only encountered a very few in our league that are whiners. After a 10 year hiatus I just started playing league again and really enjoy it. It has helped my game.

Claud <<<<< Not a whiner!

I don't think you should have to give up your table if a league just prefers to have that particular table. If they have league at that pool hall and need all of the tables available then unfortunately, yes, league should take priority in my opinion. Our league has had many nights when one of our favorite tables or preferred tables is being used by a non-league group...however, because we don't "need" that table we have no right to ask them to move or leave.

good grief.........I used to play tap league but no longer. I was a 6 in that league. there was no other table available so had to go home. the number of games should not matter but we were playing 8 ball and after 20 games and many safeties, that amounts to one game per 9 minutes. I consider that pretty good. the league was "apa" and had just started the week before with very few players so there were many tables available after they showed up. the league starts at 3 pm and I do not know when they finish. this is on a sunday afternoon. I did not start the thread to whine but to see how others would have handled it. if you want whining I could rant instead. I appreciate the insight from some responders though.

old,

I think that it's the managers fault or whoever gave you the table to begin with. At the poolhall I go to when I first asked for tables the lady behind the counter told me that leagues would be coming in and if they needed the table I'd have to get off.

So, I think it's the persons responsibility to let you know that leagues will be coming in.

If it just started, the managers may not have been made aware of the schedule. Sundays are usually 8b and 9b, or at least in my area. That means 2 tables. I agree with what others said, though, in that the business should've been the one to let you know that the tables were 'reserved' or whatnot for league and offer some kind of small free time for the next visit or something.

I think you are somehow caught in the "but I called dibs!" of your youth and the "Get off my lawn!" of your current demographic....

IF the league is new on Sundays it was likely an oversight for not telling you the table was reserved..But this has never happened before on Sunday....

I would assume they were not all league tables if they had such a poor turnout that 1st week so I would be a little peeved and ask the management for clarification as to why the player chose your table out of the whole room if there are were indeed lots of them open last week...

They may have assigned league tables now where they didn't before or they may have watched the 20 games in 3 hours and thought they needed to move you guys along before the dust started to settle on the felt......

This is a trend I've seen for many, many years, usually involving staff who don't know the players from the leaguers and don't know the difference between the two. In the place I played in for over 25 years, at first the owner, who was just getting into the game, would insist on putting casual players wherever they wanted to play, even if it meant right next to guys {regulars} who had been playing for money for hours on the clock already. She eventually wised up but it took a bunch of years. I saw one incident where someone I knew had a guy standing in his line of sight every shot. He finally asked the guy to move and, long story short, the guy in his line wound up threatening to cut his throat! That's the most drastic one I remember. Another time, I'm playing somebody, with empty tables all over two floors and the owner puts two guys with their wives next to us. The guys were ok, but the wives, both of which had infants in strollers with noise making devices sat at the table right next us. Don't think that wasn't annoying! We finally quit, the distractions were too much. People who don't understand the game just don't care:frown:
