Fair to get bumped off your table by the league?

had the tables been reserved I would have no problem....imho they did not handle it in a fair manner. there was not a problem the week before, it is just the fact that twice as many people showed up the 2nd week. since I am the oldest guy in the room I have seniority! ;) and yes, I will go to another pool hall on that day to support it as the one that has the new league apparently does not need my business. he has a filled room with the league players and I am good with that. so all is well and I appreciate the feedback.

I think that had you told them that there was money on the line, they probably would have let you play for a few more rack at a minimum as- you would think- pool players would understand. However, I consistently take over the table at the bar that I play for on league nights. Somewhere around 4pm, I tell the bartender that I will be practicing on the (only) table and to please let people know that it is league pool night. I have never had a problem. I still from time to time get the guy who just wants to play a game and won't leave me alone. Of course, I let him have it with an "A" game performance and that's usually all that it takes. Back to practicing.

I think that is the best plan, enjoy the best the world has to offer when/ where you choose.

And since the league is new at the place that bumped you, surely there are going to be growing pains. Looks like one thing management will need to implement is a system of notifying patrons the tables are reserved for league play at a certain time(!!).

What are they supposed to do when league games
Are scheduled? That would happen at any bowling alley also, or anywhere scheduled leagues are played. They should have warned you when you first started playing that leagues started at 3:00 so you could plan for it, but besides that it seems completely normal.

Just a quick word, the management of the pool hall may not have known the table was not going to be available during league. When the league I play in started its summer session, the LO was not aware of how many teams would compete and made teams up on the fly for those who wanted to play. So, early on the Hall might not have known how many tables would be used by the league early in a session.

I hate making excuses for a Pool Hall as I have seen a number of things I don't like. But, that being said, everything has its foibles and each has to decide how they will handle the irritant.

Actually, I don't really think I want this guy as a customer anyways....thus, if he plays elsewhere, it's win/win for everyong involved.

No, it's not fair, many things in life aren't. It's a management problem. 9 out 10 times employees who haven't a clue. It should not have been a league player who told you to give up the table with no prior notice. Just deal with it, I could tell you stories and May when I get home;)

I have say that it appears the manager (or his employee) dropped the ball. you should
have been advised about the league if not when you started at least when it was close to the time they take over.

I am a regular, like 4 or 5 times per week. the league had just started there the week before and there were not that many league players the week before. been playing for 3 years there and never had the problem before. yes I am an important person, I was there first and was unfamiliar with those rules of my losing the table while being there first. yes, the door can slap me in the ass as I feel as though I had the table prior to....but it is what it is. i'll go somewhere else on that day.

What are you 5?
Do you need a hug?
You are important.

just looking for your opinion on an incident the other day. a friend and I started playing on a table around noon. it was a fairly even match that afternoon and around 3 pm in the afternoon we were tied at 10 games each. about then a league player comes over and tells us we have to give them the table as league play has started. I say WTF? what do you mean we have to leave, we have been playing on this table all day! ends up we have to give up the table as it seems that "league play" over rules private play! WTH? so my buddy and I do not get to finish our private match as another table was not available. in the future I will not go to my favorite pool hall on that day as it may happen again. I would like some feedback as to what you might have done or you think this is a fair policy? .

It should have been handled better. You should have been told when you started playing there would be a league at a certain time.

Having said that, the league would bump non-league off tables everywhere I've played. I don't believe it was unfair but could have been handled better.

What time did the league start? If he's there 3 or 4 hours early, he shouldn't expect a table for practice. I'd say, 1 hour before start should be plenty.

Although league revenue is important these days, it doesn't help the game when pool players are kicked off tables for league players.
The bar or pool hall may be surviving because of some leagues, but non-league players are being discouraged because of leagues taking the tables.
There has to be a better way, and if the bar or pool hall is surviving because of leagues, it makes sense to provide for both scenarios, league pool, and real pool.

I've had it happen many times.I always just thought the LITTLE LEAGUE'RS needed the practice more than I did.

Management had three hours to give the op
a heads up about the league play. They sort of
dropped the ball.

Losing the table isn't the end of the world. The
op doesn't get to dictate to management who
plays on what table when. I agree with Macguy,
probably better for op to go someplace else since
it seems he is more interested in making problems
rather than solving them.

#1 The deskman should have told you that at 3pm he would need the table for leagues
#2 It isnt any different than if it was a bowling alley and you were on a pair of lanes
that is used by the leagues
#3 It isnt the end of the world....
