How Many Times

John really has no one to blame but himself, he simply can't back down from an argument.

The sad part is how many here take such glee in egging him into those arguments. There are several who you rarely see post anywhere else, save to reply to John. Usually with the intent to get him wound up. Cuz they know it will work. The J Flowers Case threads proved that, once again.

Don't be ridiculous. Barton gets the attention he deserves - and seeks, let's not forget. Barton looks out for barton - nobody should lose sight of that. He is a megomaniac of monstrous proportions.

John is a troubled genius when it comes to case making, very talented and full of insight about the craft. However, his pit bull antics are his own worst enemy. This whole ordeal could have been avoided, imo, rather easily. He dumped on Marc V publically, breaking the WFS section rules in the process. Whatever the real 'beef' is should have been handled behind the scenes. This whole thing was spun as a trademark & warranty issue, but in reality it's his partner/supplier who appears to have backdoored him/Sterling on their agreement. We got to read a bunch of dirty laundry, but I don't think we heard the real story. :shakehead:

I'm still scratching my head over how a trademark that was applied for and denied can still be valid. Oh well, I guess that's why lawyers get paid the big bucks. :scratchhead:

Can I get my time back that I spend looking at all this.....

I don't want Barton banned but there's no doubting he's a complete lunatic and a distraction to the ethos of the board. Fewer sellers, more teachers, please.

John is like a Mad Scientist, his Science is making Cue Case, you only need look at his web site, that I will not link because some chicken would yell FOUL. LOL

To see that John has taken his craft to levels IMHO past the furthest galaxy in the Pool world.

I am sure while John is on vacation from AZB, he is hard at work on customer order he got in Sin City at the BCAPL thin-gee.

Yeah, a PM conversation back and forth with Mark might have avoided all of this (but I doubt it). I was fortunate enough to not read very much of the 3-4 threads that stuff was posted in as I am not a lawyer, so I don't buy into most peoples interpretations to stuff like that on this board (nothing personal to anyone here)....I just prefer to play pool, have a few drinks, and shoot the 9 ball in the corner pocket :D

Or rather his staff does...

Well you must have read a Barton post or two, yes John is the Brains, or Idea Guy, he does the R & D, Prototypes, and his STAFF OR TEAM DOES the Production work.

Kind of like Kelly Johnson who was the brains at the Lockheed Skunkworks. Kelly came up with the ideas, his team brought the ideas into reality, and the production people built the ideas into production aircraft.

He makes bloody boxes. That this site gives more column inches to a box maker than it does to the game itself is to its eternal shame.

Enough with box makers.

So time I wonder if it is hate of JBCases work, or it is hate of John himself that clouds the mans accomplishment to his craft?

Of course he craves the attention. That's obvious.

He also can't restrain himself from an argument. Its a character flaw, we all have one or another, that one is his.

I still find it a bit distasteful that folks will exploit that flaw for their own entertainment. Its kinda like poking the animal in its cage with a stick, just to see it react. That happens with John on a regular basis. He's earned some if it, without a doubt. Many times, however, people pounce just because its him.

Easy target.

As for him looking out for himself, sure, he does that. But he also does a lot of stuff for others, too. Note the recent thread where he took a guys case apart in Vegas and rebuilt it for him, couple hours work AND a new interior, for no charge. He also answers questions regarding leather and case work to any who ask, when he doesn't have to do such.

He's complicated. Certainly. And he'll be back, of that we can agree.

Does it with thousands and thousands of words.
People can ignore him, sure.
The problem is when you have issues with him.
Should they just shut up ?
Like he hijacked the for sale thread ?
Should they just shut up ?

Nope.

Address the issue. It is a forum.

My only issue is those who pile on, and fire away with old arguments, to stir up more crap. Cuz they know he'll explode.

John always as an interesting take on things. He's has broad knowledge and experience, offers good thoughts. He likes to argue sometimes, so what? If it bothers you don't read it. He brings a lot more to the table than he takes away. AZ would be less interesting without him.

justabub, your points are mostly valid. However, John could easily use the ignore function to deal with those who bait him. The problem is, I think he can't stand the thought of letting them post an unchallenged argument. I myself think it is chickenshit to purposefully bait him but it always takes two to have an argument. John is very intelligent and clearly knows what is happening by now.

I'd also comment on the deal when he played Lou and got into the argument with Eric (or whoever it was) just prior to the match. To hear John's side in the thread referencing it, he innocently asked Eric to play a match for $1,000. I don't know this for fact but have been told by several that John and Eric had a previous history (and not a friendly one). Assuming this is true, was it intelligent of John to say anything at all to Eric prior to this huge match with Lou? I mean really, you have what's probably the biggest money match of your life coming up in the next hour and you essentially pick a fight with a guy you've previously had issues with?

I met John at the most recent DCC and liked him. I like a fair amount of what he posts here. However, his refusal to let any argument, no matter how trivial, drop is incredibly irritating and repeatedly gets him banned. At this point, the only conclusion I can come to is 1. John wants to get banned; 2. John doesn't care in the least if he gets banned; 3. John has some significant emotional or mental issues he can't control; or 4. John isn't as smart as many (including himself) think he is.

I hear it said that others (perhaps those baiting him) should be banned as well. I can't speak for the moderators but I'm guessing less slack is cut for someone who has repeatedly been banned (and apparently hasn't learned from it) than those who haven't been banned.

Just because somebody tells you that they have broad knowledge and experience does not make it a fact.

Poking an animal in a cage with a stick would be cruel. Alot of this stuff he brings on himself and lets admit it, He loves it.

I pick number 4.
