Fusco's The Spot (smoking allowed - nasty)

I have gotten to where I refuse to play anywhere that allows smoking. Risking my health is not worth playing pool in terrible conditions.

Just to clarify somthing about our establishment,
We are not a bar ,we serve no alcohol, nor are we a resturaunt , altho either can allow smoking or a smoking section indoors if the food to alcoholic beverage ratio in sales meets a certain requirement .

We are a private Social club , that since day 1 everyone has to sign up and become a member, (2$ one time fee, lifetime membership, 35000 members so far) to use our facility.
Which besides allowing you to enjoy one of the nicest pool rooms in the country, also includes the privilege to do some things that are under most circumstances prohibited in a puplic place by state law,
In this case ...smoking and byob, as well as we are allowed to stay open till 4am. Bars still close at 2 here.
Not much more to it.
It was not petes intention to create this room as a big F U to nonsmokers and the state of Pennsylvania .
Like i said ,in hindsight it wouldve been nice to accommodate everybody.
We appreciate our supporters and apologize for not being able to accommodate all pool players.
There are other nice nonsmoking rooms in the area that are available, we all know each other and we all have our "niche" in this. Nobody's out to put one another out of businesses .
We have lost 4 rooms in our area in the last year, both smoking and nonsmoking .
Didn't I read on here recently that he just had a heart attack? Isn't it well known that smoking and second smoke is a major contributor to heart disease. Do you think he will have any kind of change of mind as to how to run his business now that he himself may be a victim?

Complaining about a room being too smoky is fair game, but deciding not to go back based on that is silly in my opinion. My pool world-view admits one and only one valid reason to choose a pool room to play in: is it the one where the best players in the area are playing? If so, that's where I'm going to spend my playing time, no matter how pleasant or repulsive the place may be. For the record, I'm a nonsmoker and always have been, but when I'm going to play pool, top quality pool is my only concern.

I'm not saying this applies to you. Your just being lumped together

When you get lung or throat cancer you'll be calling yourself stupid
Burn marks all over the pool table
Dumping ash tray on the street when stopped at a light
You can buy cheap a car for what cigs cost a month

A co-workers wife developed Emphysema and Bronchitis from smoking. She said" as soon as she gets off this oxygen tank she's going back to smoking"

So yea your right it's not stupid, it's a choice. Different views for different folks

Should we also call all the people who are obese and walking candidates for a heart attack stupid? Or should we just ban them from fast food restaurants? People have choices. No one has a gun to their head forcing them to go into a smoking establishment. Check the Constitution, you don't have an inalienable right to tell other people what to do on their property. But these rights have been trampled all to hell by those in power who want to control us.

By and large, I think non smoking is good for most businesses. However, I feel strongly that should be their choice, not the government's. Be very, very careful what you wish for. If you think the government taking away rights and telling you what is good for you stops with smoking, you are extremely naive.

Both the obese as well as the smokers are sick. I doubt either want to be what they are. I don't know anyone who choses to be fat, or a smoker who does not want to quit. They are sick and not in control of their lives. Making me have to share in their sickness is not fair either.

You want to blame the government but the fact is, if you put the smoking thing to a vote there would be no smoking anywhere period. Only 18% of Americans are now smokers and that dropped by a full 1 percent in just one year.

Defending the smoking thing as some kind of right is just plain stupid. It is their right to smoke but not their right to make others have to suffer because they are sick in the head.

I can't believe any business that would cater to smokers can ever exist the percent of smokers is now so low. Why would you want to cater to an already shrinking market? As we know pool rooms are closing and pretty much nation wide non existent. Smart room owners will get ahead of the curve.

It is hard to go to any town or city and find even one real pool room still open when there was a time they were everywhere. Making the pool room a place that caters only to the lowest common denominator of society as others have suggested pretty much galvanizes it and ends pool rooms all together.
Like you said, be careful what you wish for.

So the public can, or should be able to, vote away property owner's rights? Is that what you're saying? I think less than 18% of the population is gay, and they certainly have a higher incidence rate of HIV, but there wasn't a vote on allowing them to be gay. In fact, just the opposite in the past two decades.

I think you're missing my point. I smoke cigars, not cigarettes. It doesn't bother me at all to go out and play pool in a non smoking establishment. It bothers me a lot for the Government to be able to dictate to that bar owner that he must outlaw the use of a legal product on their premises. Two guys can go into that bar and stick their tongues down each other throats, and that's okay apparently. Or they can even do it in public where my children would see it. That's okay apparently. But just because you want to go into someone else's building and not have to smell smoke, it's apparently okay to tell that business owner he must ban smoking. I'm honestly shocked that people who value their freedom would tolerate that kind of dictatorial action, regardless of whether they're a smoker or not.

BTW, I didn't intend to gay bash. While I don't claim to understand that life style, I don't really care. I was just using it as an example.

We now know what you are so there is no need for further discussion. You are a narrow minded bigot, have a nice day.

Not at all true, just shows your ignorance to post that. So my opinion is different than your own and you start name calling. Nice! But I'd take bigot over sheeple any day dude.

Wait until the Government decides to take your guns and knives, since it will be for the "good of everyone". We'll see what you think then.

So you accept that you are a bigot, at least you are being honest now.

Inalienable Rights on your own property, the Constitution. It's gets trampled every day.
The government makes all kinds of laws to protect the people as it sees fit. Freedom of speech, tell that to the far left and far right.

I can't grow pot in my own house
Speed limits everywhere
I can't bring my gun with me to protect myself
So on and so forth

You're absolutely correct. 3 sessions ago, I played on an apa team with two lesbians. One of the two was my favorite person on the team and who I chatted with the most. This session, I'm one of the Captains on a team with 3 African Americans. I'm a very strange sort of bigot.

The first controlled use of fire is thought to be 400,000 years ago. Only in your lifetime has anyone said smoke is bad for you. Is this junk science ? If smoke is bad why are we here?

evidence would seem to indicate such, but let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

2 people kissing has not been proven to cause negative health changes in others.

The government is tasked with making law, so it is the party that will dictate many societal characteristics. The government is largely elected by the public, so yes, the 'public' can make societal changes, largely indirectly.

wtf? That is a serious logic error there.

you can smoke just do it outside! you will cut down better for ya and save money!

I will tell ya all the bars with smoking in Pa. pay higher insurance rates and cleanup costs plus they do not provide healthcare for those employees, as the costs would be high!

The answer is a total indoor ban on smoking in public places like france, Ireland ,Scotland etc.have now!
The business owners I talked to said "level the playing field these loopholes are not fair" !

I do not smoke. I prefer non-smoking establishments. I don't like coming home with my hair, clothes, and body smelling like smoke.

Still, if I lived nearby I would definitely check this place out. Sounds like a great place to me. Sometimes it's worth it to take a little bit of the bad with the good. Also, although I do prefer non-smoking establishments, I don't think the government should outlaw smoking in bars or pool halls (or any privately owned establishment).

Also, I am a non-smoker who does not think all smokers are stupid.

I

Also, I am a non-smoker who does not think all smokers are stupid.

They are not stupid, they are addicted. They are stupid if they live in denial though. Grasping at straws trying to validate their poor judgment and behavior.

I've noticed that since most pool halls on both sides of the border have gone non smoking....
....the non smokers aren't doing a very good job of supporting them.

I have a friend, who doesn't smoke, who tells me that nonsmoking legislation Is the
worst thing that ever happened to his business.
