places to play in tampa

Stroker's
30901 US Hwy 19 North
Palm Harbor, FL 34684
Supposed to be a great place. They host the U.S. Amateur event in November

heading to tampa for the red sox@rays series over labor day weekend... any good places to play?

Let's see..

The Rays and Sox will be in St. Pete.

Crooked Cue in Clearwater, FL have three Diamond tables and about eight Big G's (with huge buckets), full bar, and a Mugs & Jugs around the corner. 20 minutes away from Tropicana.

Corner Pocket in Largo, FL have ten Big G's, one or two have 4 1/2" pockets, another is super tight for one hole, and the rest are buckets. Bar microwave food, full bar, Greek restaurant next door. Also about 20 minutes from Tropicana.

Strokers in Palm Harbor, FL have a mix of tables, but really a great playing area and great food in the elevated horseshoe bar. They do have normally a cue mechanic on site for tip repairs. It's 40-60 minutes from the Trop considering the horrendous ongoing construction.

Family Billiards is in Clearwater. It looks to be a players room with GCs, but I've never been there. Maybe I should go and give a review. It gets great reviews from players.

Emjoy your time in Tampa. Furtner north of Tampa is HammerHeads and Capones I always hear good things of Capones. Both are nice places.

Brandon Billiards is east of Tampa and has 9 foot Diamond tables. It's probably a 30-40 minutes drive from Tropicana.

thanks

thanks for all the info... one quick question... are all of these or any of these rooms smoke free? it doesn't bother me really but some of the friends I'm going down there with are bothered by a smoky environment.

Brandon Billiards should be smoke free. I was last there in May. The owner is a member here and might see this thread.

Crooked Cue is a smoking venue. Not sure about the other rooms mentioned.

Brandon Billiards is smoke free but if you're here for a baseball game and you're staying near Tropicana Field, that's a long drive to play pool (it's longer than 30-40 minutes someone stated earlier). You might want to look for places west of the Gandy Bridge (St. Pete, Clearwater, etc.) I'd suggest Stroker's if you're staying on that side of the Bay. If you don't mind driving or you're staying on the Tampa side of the bay Baluka's, Brandon Billiards and Barley's are all decent pool halls.

Family Billiards 1212 Rogers St. Clearwater. Eleven tables. Six 9' Gold Crown 1's.
41/2" pockets, Simonis 860 cloth and Super Aramith Pro balls. Five 8' Robertson tables. Very reasonable rates. Open eleven am till 2:30 am 7 days a week. Plenty of good people. Smoking permitted.

just got back from tampa. went to strokers in palm harbor Saturday night. the owner was very nice and accommodating. it was a nice room. not a lot of players that night but had more of a bar feel with it being Saturday. didn't mind that though, I'm no stranger to a bar. football was on, beer was cold, wings were good and the girls were hot. thanks for recommending strokers. will definitely be back my next trip down south

Surprised no one has volunteered the Flamingo as a place to go. Its a bar with a trap gold crown up front, bar tables in the back. You can get played there if your looking for action.

Strokers was a cloud when I visited, about 1.5 yr ago.

So how did you enjoy the shitty Trop? Was there for the Sox v Rays playoff series last fall. They think the fans are so lacking that they need to constantly pump in music and sound effects to mask the environment. A cross between a hip hop concert and a NBA game.
