I picked up a MO2 this weekend for 5 bucks, I obviously didn't care to inspect it for that price. Latter on I was looking it over and noticed that the joint collar, the black ring under it and the shaft collar were cracked. It also should be refinished with a new wrap. The cue is some how almost completely straight as it was put together leaning up against a wall in an old dirty barn. Here's where I want to hear thoughts from others. Should I possibly have meuuci do the work and pay more? Or should I have any one qualified do it to save money. I do not plan to sell it but its hard to justify putting more money then its worth. How would you feel about a cue repaired by the company/ person who made it? Should you pay more for a cue repaired and restored by the maker vs qualified person. Just looking to here some thoughts.

Ryan at Muellers (RAT) would be my suggestion...or Scott Erwin if he is still doing cue work. I would not use Meucci ('Search' is your friend).
It's not that I really want it restored, they just play so nice and I have a wopping 5 dollars invested. But if I should find myself deciding to sell it on a good day they might bring a couple hundred bucks in original used condition. I just don't see them very often where someone says its been repaired by meucci. I just wonder if the value justfies the cost in that situation.
If you can find someone who will pay $200 for that cue I want to move in next door
to them.
If you feel they play nice - keep it and play nice with it.

How bad are the rings cracked? Can that be repaired with same-color epoxy, sanded down and refinished? Or do they clearly need to be replaced?
Personally, I've had fantastic results with this product, which sands down nicely with steel wool and polishes up super-glossy with some Nu-finish.

In that case either try to play with it like it is, or see what a local guy would charge to fix the ring.
If it costs $50 to get the ring repaired and you feel better about it, than it will be money well spent.
If you ever do go to sell it, you could make upwards to $40 profit, which isn't bad from

If you really like this cue but have a desire for it to be in better cosmetic condition, I would look for another one that doesn't require any work.
The cost to restore the cue, rewrap it with a finish over the wrap and replace the collars would exceed $200.
I don't own any Meucci cues but I read many comments from people who call into question their current workmanship.
I have a few war-torn Palmers and it is nice to shoot with, and hold a cue that has a life-story to tell.

That's a great buy, a had a MO2 that really played well, sold it on ebay for $182. I don't believe Meucci charges that much more than anyone else but you have to pay shipping and wait a little longer to get it back. On the other hand it is going to be done right.
I don't love to be a hater but send it to anyone but meucci. I sent them a cue to be repaired for a friend. It took them two weeks of daily calls to answer the phone and two months to verify that they had received the cue! Then a year and a half to get it back to us! I called many times in that year and almost never reached anyone.
There are at least 5 probably 10 cue makers on az who have learned the secret art of answering the phone. I would stick with thoes guys.
BTW: the meucci looked immaculate when they finally got it back to us. So no complaints about their work. But their communication skills suck.

Easy fix for most. Trick will be having the right material.
I'd venture to bet that once it's done, nobody will care who made it pretty. Assuming you have a good cue smith in the area, I'd have it done locally and save on time and shipping cost.
What kind of wrap / color combo are you thinking? You can have fun with stain colors, too...
If this were my project, I'd leave the wrap un-lacquered and go with dark emerald green linen with white specs, and a slight to medium reddish-brown stain to the wood.

I have to emphatically suggest against the Meucci repair crew. I had a cue done by them, sent back due to it being poorly done, and finally got it back looking ok but with a replaced (without explanation and no prior damage) butt sleeve. The sleeve was not black like the original.
Every Meucci repair inquiry on AZ usually finds Ryan at RAT cues/Meullers highly recommended. I'd go with him.

I've got a guy here that'll fix it for under $50, though I'd have to ask him about the rewrap and finish.
This is why I've told my Meucci customers to call me and let me deal with Meucci. I don't even understand why they have a number listed.
