Not sure how he manages to keep afloat in Lost Wages....

I remember reading that story of how he bet it all on a football game (Detroit Lions to win?) when he was at a Reno tournament one year, won and had a nice party afterwards......it was in Playing off The Rail.......I like stories like that.....like the one about the guy who showed up with a suitcase with one million dollars and bet it all on red (roulette) (supposedly his life savings) won it and left with 2 suitcases full of money....

He has a great voice on the radio, I think. Quite a variety of topics were covered. I didn't know Jimmy was in Baltimore Bullet, either.

Everybody knows who Jimmy Mataya is. For sure, he is a pool legendary player, wherever he goes in this pool world. Keith and I were having dinner with him in Vegas one time at the IPT event. The IPT had a rule that they would allow the players to have a cornerman if they made it to the semifinals. Keith chose Jimmy Mataya to be his cornerman. Unfortunately, though, Keith didn't get that far in the charts.

To show you the amount of respect Jimmy has, at this same dinner, Shawn Putnam and a friend walked into the restaurant and sat at the table next to us. Jimmy was like a one-man show and had Keith and me laughing hysterically. We were in stitches listening to him recount his experience at a recent 14.1 tournament in New Jersey with the rain pouring in through the roof. What a storyteller!

Shawn Putnam motioned for me to draw near, as he wanted to ask me a question in private. I leaned over and he whispered in my ear, "Could you please introduce me to Jimmy?" He had never met him before but wanted to speak to him. That's the kind of attraction Jimmy has, even among his peers.

I loved the interview!! He definately showed here that Jimmy Mataya and Pretty Boy Floyd are two completely different people. It was touching that he only wants to get in the hall of fame for his daughter. Apologizing to anyone he has ever offended was also a nice gesture. I also liked what he had to say about what it takes to be a winner and the effort he expects from himself. Overall I really liked the interview, a very selfless account of his history....

I agree. It really showed a side of Jimmy that many may not have seen previously. He's a fun pool player, but, yes, he does have a serious side too. :)

Hysterical the way I spelled "apologizing"....It was an early morning flight :-)
