Hello,

I am in need of some help. Very recently one of the shafts of my mid 80s SW shafts was damaged. I am now finding out that obtaining a correct replacement is darn near impossible.

I am desperate,, if anyone knows of where I can purchase enough of the natural-brown linen material to repair the damage on my shaft I would be most grateful. I am willing to pay a premium for this material.. I just want my favorite cue to be fixed.

I have attached a pic that hopefully will help in my quest.

Regards,
Tim

I'd replace both joint collars and the butt cap(if it's the same). The likliehood of finding an exact match is slim to none..

I'll suggest Ryan at Muellers or KJ at Seyberts as most likely to have a piece close to that.

Either way, I'd send it to SW and have it fixed there.

If you want to retain maximum resell value, I would send it back to Laurie Franklin.

Good point,, that is what I am planning on doing.

Definitely contact her, but be prepared. I don't believe they have any more of this same color phenolic material that will match this. Her new brown is much different, darker and flatter (much less orangish-brown).

I've heard of a few cuemakers who have been able to dye the lighter tan phenolic that's still available to match older cues like this. If you are interested in knowing more about that, PM me. The folks at SW may be able to do that also, doesn't hurt to ask. Just good to know some options before proceeding.

See example below (borrowed pic):
