Karen Corr in the finals 14.1 American National Championships.

I enjoy the fact that my customers from this forum buy from me because they appreciate that I do say what I think on and off the forum.

John, I'd have to say it's a pretty safe bet that some of your customers are holding their nose through the purchase process only because they want the case in spite of how you behave here.

I'll assume that some of that is true however it's been proven by top marketers that if people associate negativity to a product they don't purchase it ,, product disconnect ,,

oh, I agree. I was just trying to point out that it is quite a leap for John to suggest customers from this forum buy from him because they appreciate what he says on and off the forum.

you would lose.

not only do a lot of my customers send me notes of encouragement for telling it as I see it but many of them say it outright.

you might know how to spin a story lou but you will probably be er understand how the truth resonates with people. it is my experience that while a nicely written fairy tale is entertaining the truth is more satisfying.

I behave just fine.

Well if Hitler and Charels Manson can have followers I'm sure JB can stumble in a few ,, but no question in my mind or any other reasonable thinkers he loses more than he gains

Yes, I'm especially fond of the one that has the big bad wolf saying, "I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house down."

But the pig builds a house of bricks. The wolf fails to blow down the house. He then attempts to trick the pig out of the house by asking to meet him at various places, but he is outwitted each time. Finally, the wolf resolves to come down the chimney, whereupon the pig catches the wolf in a cauldron of boiling water, slams the lid on, then cooks and eats him.

Always liked that one ;-)

Is this one of those entertaining but untrue fairy tales you were referencing earlier? :p

On a more serious note, I recommend just ignoring some of the posts you consider trolls. Feeding trolls is a no-win situation.

Yes, it's a good fantasy. Many modern day public relations people received their early training by thinking that fairy tales could be used in the real world. Many spend their lives crafting similar tales where pigs eat wolves hoping the public will buy it.

I like the modern day fairy tale like Rocky where the challenger gets his ass kicked, picks himself up, trains harder and then comes back to win. That story has played out for real in life and business millions of times.

I may not agree with John all the time and he knows that, BUT his cases and his innovations in case design speak for themselves. I am not buying his opinion when I buy one of his cases. JMO!

No, my "behavior" is just fine. I don't do anything wrong. I respond to whatever points I want to and to whatever slurs I want to. I say what I think about topics as I want to.

I adhere to the rules when I argue, others don't.

As for trolls, they are too me what bullies on the playground are to children and I refuse to cede the sandbox to them. They don't get to be the ones who define the conversation with their negativity and run everyone else off.

We shouldn't ignore trolls, we should eradicate them.

The norm is more like the case of Gerry Cooney or Mike Spinks were there never heard of again ,,

Well that probably explains the fact that I have more business than we can handle. I guess unless you sit here and see the volume of orders we have you can only speculate.

It is a myth that you can bully me by threatening to withhold your business. Do the math, there are millions of pool players and I make hundreds of cases. Am I worried about pandering to unknown people on a message board in the hope that as many of them will buy from me as is possible.

You would THINK that people who value honesty and forthrightness and free speech would appreciate a guy willing to stand up and display those values even if what he has to say isn't in the nicest way or it's not "politically correct". But no, you think that I should be self-censoring just to be on your good side and get your money.

Is that the sort of person you really want? A serf who licks your boots in hopes of getting a few coins tossed his way? Well, you keep your coins and I will keep my dignity and both of us will go our own way.

I prefer to transact with people who appreciate integrity.

Nope, in business there are plenty who have survived adversity without compromising their values.

I will NEVER pander to you or anyone on this forum just to get an order. Rational people can disagree with civility. Trolls have to put in personal slurs.

And Spinks and Conney got up there and got in the ring in the first place which is more than you can say for a lot of people, especially anonymous trolls on forums who would rather bash with chairs from outside the ring rather than get in and have a good clean fight under their own name.

I'm curious who you are, I mighta been sitting 15 feet away from you, lol.

While I wasn't sitting close enough to Earl to hear the exact comments. I will say that he didn't go on the typical Earl rant for the whole match. If anything, the comments were in the early going, before they had played mroe than 3-4 racks. Earl led the whole match, and as the match progressed, he really didn't have that much to say.

Now, I'm not a raving Earl fan, just to clarify. Just giving some more input from someone that was also sitting tableside.

I was sitting in the front row, on the other side of the table (you were prolly sitting in the middle aisle).

Eric

Eric, I was seated in the middle aisle right behind Earl. No mistaking what he said, and no doubt that Karen could hear every word. You could see on her face that she was shaken by his rant, and her game definitely was off. She missed two or three shots she'd almost never miss, and the momentum certainly wasn't going to swing her way after that, not against a monster like Earl.

Would she have ground out a win if he was quiet in his chair the whole time like he should be? Probably not, but that's not the point. The point is that gender shouldn't be an issue in pool, any more than race, religion, nationality, sexual preference, or taste in music. If it is a personal issue, you should do your best to not show it and just play the game. It's called "Good sportsmanship."

I live in a world where if I say the wrong thing it could cost my company millions not thousands ,, Yes JB we live in a world were biting your tough is considered as a strength not a weakness ,, we may not like it but that's what it is ,,

It was your integrity which cost you a customer, and a lost opportunity cost represents lost income.

Shirley you must be joking not to comprehend opportunity costs? (pun intended)

It has been my integrity that has gained me actual customers. You are not a customer until you actually buy something. I don't count people as possible customers to be bowed to and pandered to. I count people as people who ought to be capable of distinguishing between personal opinion and product and who don't go around trying to "spank" other adults with their money whip.

Do you HONESTLY think I give a shit about your money? You think that the couple hundred dollars you MIGHT spend with me means anything?

I will tell you when it means something, when you actually become a customer and spend money then the money means something because we have entered into a deal and it's up to me to honor my end of it and give you a product that you are happy with.

Until then you are just a window shopper, or even better, out of the way of real customers who CAN distinguish between personal opinion and product and who do not go around trying to make other people act the way they think a person should act by using the old "I won't buy from you" stick.

You talk about integrity and yet you show a clear lack of it right here trying to bully me into submission as if you can BUY me for the price of a case.

Thanks for posting the truth. Earl should have been warned and then ejected from the match if he continued after the warning. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way and Karen was cheated out of the opportunity to compete in a fair environment.

Looking at the big picture, Mike Zuglan had bigger worries than Earl's rude behavior and intentional sharking. The racking issues at the event were beyond belief, with many arguments and outright blow ups. You can tell who the rack mechanics are, their matches last two hours with all the shenanigans. It's gotten beyond old, it's gotten outright disgusting.

Still, I agree that a player of Karen's caliber should have every opportunity to get a fair match. Funny thing I heard was a guy playing Mike Dechaine questioning Mike when he changed shafts on his cue because he was having problems with his tip.

"Isn't that considered a forfeit when you unscrew your cue?"

MIke looked at him in disbelief, and then asked him, "Is that really the way you want to win?"

I'd love to ask Earl the same thing every time he sharks somebody with his ranting. Earl "The Pearl" Strickland, the greatest 9-baller that ever lived... is that really the way you want to win?
