World Cup of Pool 2014(Portsmouth, UK) 23-28Sep (9ball Scotch Doubles) Winner $60K

That Thorsten shot is fortunate one

What great comeback by Canada
Morra 36 degrees turn in his game with some nice safeties
Down 2-5 they won next 4 racks and now on hill 6-5
they won nice racks one was 3 foul rule to win another a combo by alex

Morra Morra Morra
so near yet so far
crazy 8 ball miss by Morra
now 6-6 and germany breaking

Germany should not celebrate yet instead thank Morra for screwing up a routine shot. Like I said, he would cost his team with his play & he did just that.

No fairytale for Canada they are out 6-7
Thorsten key long pot of 2 in final rack shows why he is the hitman. Great shot under pressure

Tight pockets on that Diamond. You can't hit the side rail going in, especially if you're drawing the ball. Ralf missed one in that pocket earlier in the match by catching the side rail as well.

Poor Johnny.

I bet he felt as though his chest would explode. Was a great comeback though and Alex, well, he played great like he always does executing the right shot and the right time.

I would hate to be feeling what Johnny is feeling right now...

That may have been the best shot of the tournament so far. Only a few guys could make a shot like that under pressure. That's what a world champion does!

IMHO, John Morra still has quite a long way to go before he could become a world champion.

that is a shot john will never forget
it seems like it never fails you miss a ball like that the
pool gods make you pay 2 games or more in that case the match

he was lucky no doubt he not only made the ball he got lucky on the shape
no way was he trying that shot

I think it was a missed kick Joey. I believe he was trying to spin the CB enough to come off the bottom rail and make a full hit on the 2.

I know the shot with a ball on the middle diamond, ball spotted and the CB directly in line with those 2 balls on the middle diamond and loading up the CB with inside to go around the spotted ball.

But the 9 ball was about half the distance between rail and spot on TH's shot. And that makes the shot that much more difficult to judge the curve around the 9.

That 's my case anyway for he actually played the kick!! :p

If the cue ball was further from the rail and he could have used left center I'd say he played it. However with
the cue ball close to the rail and him hitting down on it and using low left I'd say he was trying to come of the rail and kick it.

I heard the commentators saying that it was a great shot but am glad that the three of you agree with me.

How about John Morra's miss on the 8 ball, with the score 6-5 in their favor. Did the 8 ball hit the side rail going in or not? I didn't think he hit the 8 ball hard enough to jaw it unless he hit the side rail, but without replaying it and watching more carefully I couldn't positively tell. The way the 8 ball reacted, I "think" the 8 MIGHT have hit the side rail or the left point going in. Sure Morra could have hit that shot a little softer but he was trying to give Alex an almost perfect shape on the 9, which he did and that was the Achilles of the shot.

Anyway, I guess you could say that Germany was fortunate and Canada had moments of brilliance but in the end, failed to put the final nail in Germany's coffin.

Did you see the six-eight combo Ralf missed a couple of games earlier. The eight needed to be thrown in, but not by using English. Ralf needed to hit the left side of the six to throw the eight into the pocket. How he didn't know that is beyond me. That's Pool 101!

The 8 did in fact catch the side rail going into the pocket as evidenced by the replay.

No matter what the actual culprit was that caused it, you just can't miss that shot at that level of play.

I have to disagree Jay...

I don't think the 8 ball could have been made even if he hit the 6 on the left side. I don't believe the 6 would catch enough of the 8 to throw it into the pocket.

I was surprised to see Ralf even attempt the shot as opposed to playing a safety.

I thought the same thing and was surprised when he hit it the way he did. Assuming he knows more than me, :p, I have to think it was just too far to try to throw the ball.

That being said....what exactly was he trying to do? Play safe by locking him to the back side of the 6 ball?
