Nice Runde Schon Custom

This cue is all over the place. It has a forearm that looks like the one in the schon-boti cue. Barry said it could be a Gus forearm. It has interesting stitch rings in butt sleeve, sharp points with cnc ivory diamonds, stainless rings at collar. It gets a lot of unexpected attention. If anyone knows a model number, that would be awesome, but I'm thinking it's a custom.

Enjoy!

That IS VERY interesting. One of the oldest Schons I have has a set of points DIFFERENT from the others old ones I have. It was made circa 1982, as I got it from a well known Schon dealer that ordered it for himself. Very interesting...

To the OPs cue...Does look custom as Ive not seen anything like it either. Id date it 83-85. In fact it is real curious why it doesnt have stich rings...

I'm far from a schon expert, but for some reason, I think someone told me the lack of dots over the "o" dates it pretty close to 1989.

Something about this cue just doesn't look right to me.... Ring work on the butt sleeve for one... If your able to find out anything more about this please post...
Thanks,

The cue(Buttsleeve) looks entirely different in person than it does in these pictures.. As far as a modified R-6...I respectfully disagree.. Is it different? Absolutely, but the cue is 100% Schon IMO..

The dash rings look like none I have ever seen used in the Runde era and to have the above the butt cap and below the wrap and not above just doesn't seem consistent with Runde Schons that I've seen. I'm no expert by any means this is just my opinion.

Guaranteed NOT a forearm made by Gus AND guaranteed not made in 1982.... The OP was sold a story..

Sold a story by Barry? I doubt it.. whether it is or not, "could be" by Barry is a long way from "Guaranteed NOT" by anyone else..

I may have been told lots of stories, but none about this cue. I never said anything but 1989 ish due to logo.

So you're saying Barry authenticated this cue as one made with a blank from his father? The blank does not look like its constructed as Gus would have done it so i think there's some miss communication here...

Im kind of surprised to see a sharp point schon, with rounded inlays, and silver ring in joint collar....it seems a bit of a head scratcher (no expert here)

Where does it say anywhere in this post that Barry authenticated this cue as a Gus blank???

Just because the inlays have a radius on the corners and are not sharp does NOT mean they are "cnc" ....It just means that the pocket and part were milled to be that way... The milling/cutting tools used to create the pockets and parts are pretty much the same in the "old" methods as they are for those who use computer numerercal control assisted machinery. Parts can easily be cut with sharp corners but pockets not so much and can need some hand trimming if you want to minimize the negative space and glue lines regardless of what "moves" the cutters.

These inlays could have been done when the cue was first built... As to when the cue was built, my best guess was sometime in late 88.... Coincidentally around the untimely passing of Gus. Just a coincidence imo but my opinion isn't the be all tell all... Get the cue in Barry's hands. Thats what I'd do....

it appears someone modified an R 6
should of NEVER Installed ROUNDED cnc inlays

nice, unique old Schon

It was pretty common to see rounded diamond inlays on many of the older, sharp-point Schon cues. Likewise it was also common to see sharp-corner diamonds on their cues with rounded/inlaid points, both the older versions as well as newer ones.

I don't see anything that leads me to believe the cue isn't 100% Schon. Not sure why someone would go through the trouble of faking a Schon...
