I agree with this, even with the Magic Rack, if an untrained neutral racker is used, you can still get a bad rack.
With the magic rack, you really need to make sure to squeeze all the balls together after they are placed on the rack.
I would think that it shouldn't take a tremendous amount of training to get someone who has any pride to be able to provide a decent rack.
I can't play pool for $hit, but I can rack well. (Probably these two things go hand in hand, I certainly have a lot of practice racking, lol.) I take it personally if my opponent can't get a good break on one of my racks. I realize that not many care enough to put the proper attention to it. But you wouldn't need too many people for 9 tables like at the US Open.
I've had no formal training, and we play on older equipment that isn't replaced or maintained, and we use plastic racks. I can do it, so I know it can be done.
(I'm not saying that I'm necessarily qualified to rack for this tournament, but I bet if I had a couple hours of training with Jay, he would find my racks acceptable. I'm sure there are many folks, far more experienced than I, that could provide an acceptable rack.)
