Low deflection shaft for Schon, questions...?

I was thinking to buy 314/2 shaft for my Schon and was wondering are the other competitive products as good as 314/2... such as Tiger X, OB2 Classic, Samsara, jacoby, Pechauer LDS etc...

Should I just go with 314 or experiment...?

I have a 314-2 and a Meucci Pro shaft and prefer the Meucci. I have the solid maple version and it has as good or better LD qualities than the 314-2 and a lot more "feel".

Ss360/2

You should really try the SS360/2 from Bob Danielson ( BD cues ) .
I played with Predator , OB , Mezz but nothing comes close to the playability of
my SS360/2 . Bob can make this shaft to fit your Schon and you can choose from 12,50mm till 13mm . price : $200 !!!

try it you'll love it .

I have an OB classic pro that I use on a couple of Schons I own. It does the job, but most of my play these days is with a Predator SP with a Z2 shaft.

Mezz WX900. No dead feeling, laminated crap like 314/2. And deflection between 314/2 and Z2.
Without having tested them, I imagine the new OB+ shafts are much the same.
If you are fine with a laminated shaft, why not buy a $150 Katana shaft?
I played with that shaft for a while and found it to be every bit as good as a 314/2 shaft.

Brilliance,

Only one question for you. Why is it Schon is the ONLY major cue company who does NOT offer a low deflection shaft for their cues? If Evan Clarke thought LD was a better solution, why would he not develope one? He is a businessman. LD is the latest and greatest promotion. Why not jump on board?

Schon buys partials from OB & Predator, and finishes them with the Schon logo, no
different than any other custom cuemaker.
In fact I have a used Schon OB1 I'm going to sell if anyone is interested.
Great shaft, straight, used by a very good player.

Schon has all they can do just to keep up with cue orders, they have no interest in L/D.
Consider that they use the heaviest ferrule mtrl. in the industry; Ivorine4.
If you want lower deflection (squirt) in a Schon cue, you opt for the ivory ferrule which is LIGHTER.
Schon is a small operation, employee-count wise and the market is already flooded with 'me-too' L/D shaft manufacturers.
There's at least 1/2 doz makers of L/D shafts and that's not counting the independent CMs making their own version.
The same question could be asked about SouthWest, why don't they make an L/D shaft?
Because when you have an outrageously successful business model, you don't mess with it.

I've noticed in not only this thread but others as well that everyone wants to compare their L/D shafts to Predator's.
That would pretty much make Predator the 'bench-mark'. There's good reason for that.
Predator is the innovator of the L/D shaft and it's technology, they paid the price to make it happen.
Every manufacturer since has copied Predator's engineering and technology and come up short.
If you want the best, there is only one, the best from the beginning.
Predator sells more L/D shafts than anyone else by a factor of at least 10:1. Wonder why???

Guys,

That's my point. If the technology was so great, why hasn't Schon or SW invested in their own design? Perhaps it's because their shafts are already more than adaquate. How much is results and how much great promotion? Seems like the "Aiming System" controversy to me. JMHO.

Tried a bunch of various LD options on my Schon....

Always went back to the original Schon shaft for me. LOVE it's hit. :)

the results of LD shafts speak for themselves.....they are more consistant in the way that you don't have to adjust your aiming as much if you are using english.....and you get more outta the cueball...

You're comparing companies that put out thousands of LD shafts and cues, vs. custom cuemakers that put out a few hundred cues.
South West & Schon are small custom shops, not manufacturing facilities
Same for the other 700 custom cuemakers out there, and in most cases if people don't like the cuemaker's shafts (taper, quality, etc) then they don't like the cue either.
Most people that buy Schon's like the standard Schon shaft or Schon IV.
A South West without original traditional South West Shafts, would be devalued by $700 at least.
I guess it all depends on which world you live in, custom or production.

For the sake of full disclosure, I recently sold a Jeff Olney cue, and one shaft was his own version of an LD.
I couldn't tell the difference at first, they played the same.
Other custom cuemakers have their version of an "LD taper" as well.

They are all good in their own way. If it's your first LD shaft you will find them all to be a bit odd at first but unless you try a bunch of them, the first one you get will be just fine. Out of all the shafts I tried, the Predator changed the balance and hit feel of cues more than any other LD shaft.

The best feeling ones were custom cue makers LD shafts (Mike Webbs I like a lot) and the Players HXT I use on my cue.

Blues,

I was commenting on an earlier post. All I'm really saying is, if the LD shafts are sooooo great, why don't the companies I mentioned make their own? I use a twenty plus year old Schon shaft on my everyday playing cue. Seems to work just fine. I've tried several LD shafts. Within several racks, my experience is, it's just another shaft. One of SW's cuemakers allowed me to play with his personal cue. Had no problem with the SW "hit". Find far more difference in the hardness of the tips on my current shafts (eight Schon's) or the shaft diameters (from 11.5 mm to 13.25 mm). Guess that's why I'm just a banger  .Then again, it might be the thirty eight years I spent in sales.

Runde Schons, Schon Schon's, Runde's, South West, and OB are kind of a big deal in Denver.
Since I know longer have a designated player, I could pick one of my Schons and get used to it right away.
The old 314's, and anything OB are really hot right now.

35-years Tyco International Flow Control Division, now called Pentair, I'm unofficially
retired, and 11 or 12-Schon shafts for 3-Schons>>

I recently got a Jacoby Hybrid Edge for my Schon. First time I felt I had a magic wand.

I use a pre-cat 314 for my Schon which I have been using for close to 10 years. Several friends have the Jacoby and absolutely love it. I don't tinker much with shafts and cues but if I did I would try out the Jacoby.
