Here is my tip currently:

The tip failed after beating the crap out of it. Hundreds of hours on here, no complaints. An old Chandivert Crown, nothing fancy at all.

(Yes, I missed the bank trying to show more inside off the rail. TOI banks work when you need to open them up!)

All I have to say after experiencing this is that I will giggle at anyone spending more than a few bucks on a tip because "it spins the ball better". I will take another video when I have a moment to see if I can get some crazy juice without the tip flying off.

TL;dr - expensive tips are for vanity
 
That spin comes from any tip. Even a completely faulty, hanging by a thread, tip. I never specified any type.

Sorry but I have no clue what the thread or video is about, unless you're trying to prove you can draw the ball 2 feet with any tip?
 
So how does this prove that your cheap tip is better? I'm sorry man but I came in here ready to see some actual proof and all I see is you shooting a few shots.

Also your draw really wasn't that impressive.

It wasn't meant to be a dazzling display of shooting, just that a failed tip is as good as any other. I didn't try powering anything yet because it is barely hanging on. You can see how bad that tip is on there and the fact that the cue ball still spins easily enough.

I see plenty of threads on here about "which tip gives the best spin" - figured I would throw something different out there.

I can play quite well with a phenolic tip, but that doesn't mean that I want to...

I have played with a wide variety of tips, ranging from $.50 up to $30. I loved shooting with a milk dud tip, for about 2 weeks. I've found the same to be true for quite a number of tips. In my experience, Karomi Black Pearl tips ($6.50) play fairly similar to a Kamui Black, but they glaze over quickly, and tend to delaminate. For these reasons, I spend the $30 on Kamui Black medium tips. They don't mushroom, and barely ever need maintenance. I typically change it once a year, whether it needs it or not.
 
So, spending thousands on a pool table, room decorations and another k or so on a titlist conversion is fine,
but spending $10-20 extra once a year on a tip, that's just hype and waste of money correct?

Yes but those threads are discussions based around scientific fact. You have not put forth any kind of facts or tests to prove or disprove your theory. I guess this thread would have been received better if you had worded the original post differently.
 
I should keep playing when my tip fails is the point you're making? I think I'll continue to grab another shaft out of the case. That's why I carry extras.

IMHO the OP has an interesting take on the "best tip" debate.

Let's face it, 98% of the tip debate isn't "scientific fact." It's people's impressions, opinions and experiences (which are valuable, but not scientific).

Dr. Dave and a few others offer the remaining 2% with at least some experimentation and data...none of which is conclusive.

The idea that you can even play with a tip that's hanging by a thread is just another take on the debate.

Now the OP has to test 20 different tips, all hanging by a thread to inform us about which one performed best. :D
 
this doesn't show that expensive tips are hype. You could do the same with any tip. Many of us have played with tips that were loose from time to time.

All this shows is that you can still shoot with a tip that is partially glued on. That should be comforting to anyone who has this problem in the middle of a match and no spare shaft.

you might get enough spin with a janky tip to get around that barbox with no problem...

For me it is a fact that some tips give me more spin with less stroke which help me move around the big table.

First of all -- the tip doesn't look faulty, the glue does.

Secondly, a ferrule will spin the ball. What people here are looking for is not miscuing when they're playing frozen off the rail on a soft shot. Or getting the same spin reaction repeatably. And having good "feel".

In watching the fundamentals you have (sliding your hand up to a ball that's a total hanger) I doubt you engage in a great deal of competition -- and probably don't run a lot of racks on tight equipment.

It's not spinning the ball -- but more often then not, it's spinning the ball maximally...while keeping the velocity it travels to a minimum.

While you may be right about your claim, your authority, evidence and logic are lacking.

Sorry, but you're not understanding how banks work. On a standard bank, like the one you shot, inside shortens. If you're cutting across the ball, it will open/widen. If somebody told you that TOI widens banks, slap them.. a lot.
