Oscar Dominguez and Amar Kang split

I also understand what you are saying but just disagree, no biggie. Look at the emergence of e-sports. IMO, golf, soccer, darts, snooker to name a few can be boring to watch. But, with the right plan and presentation, they have carved out a nice niche in the sports landscape.

This for sure. Add baseball to that list as well.

Give up what?

Give up this dream that pro pool players will be famous athletes... sure. That might be a good idea. Give up thinking pro pool players should make several hundred thousand dollars or even millions. Yea, i'd stop dreaming about that.

But give up growing the game? No. Give up enjoying the game? No. Give up caring about the game? No. Things are what they are and with how things are structured, nothing will change any time soon. If everyone came together to work together as one, we could see progress one day but that just won't happen.

Get this man a trophy

Roger, you can let the owner of Bull Shooters know he can contact me anytime. He will be pleasantly surprised to know that every single room owner has had increased profits during our tour stops and have been asking to do more.

I was a pool room owner myself with my father. I know how the business works and the priority is the business because without making it lucrative for them, the players have 0.

We are looking forward to going to Phoenix, I don't think its a life changing moment to have people split. There are more serious things in the world going on like disease and famine than splitting.

I just did an interview with ABR and suggest you listen... thanks, Oscar

That's too negative and self-centered for me. I refuse to believe that nothing can be done to make the game interesting for newcomers to watch. And I refuse to believe that our pro players couldn't be able to earn a minimum of 40-50K per year after expenses. Pool, Snooker, and Billiards are attractive to almost everyone, even toddlers. Brightly colored balls rolling quietly around a smooth, flat surface and rebounding off of rubber cushions or other balls, is mesmerizing. Most people, even non-players, can't sit next to a table that's in use and resist checking out what's going on there. And when the game is being played by skilled players, it becomes even more attractive. So I believe there must be a way to package pool and market it to the public, but the right people to do that haven't surfaced yet.

Call me a dreamer if you like, but maybe dreaming about the game is another way that I enjoy it. :)

Thank you, Oscar. That's reassuring, and I'll pass it on.

Roger

....So what do we do, give up ? I believe there must be a way to package pool and market it to the public, but the right people to do that haven't surfaced yet.....Call me a dreamer if you like, but maybe dreaming about the game is another way that I enjoy it. :)

Roger, Don't you ever go back and look at past posts, in the same thread ??? I can't believe you have ignored both my posts, addressed specifically to you ! (#nos. 51 and 60) Please do me the courtesy of at least reading them !

Thanks, Dick Mc Morran

PS..Maybe they were just too negative for you, huh ?.. You should be more content with your business, and your well established involvement with Bullshooter's...Certainly nothing wrong with striving to improve that !...However, the reality is, you are doing better than 95% of the 'pros' will ever do !

Yes, I read both your posts, Dick. But I wasn't trying to ignore you, I just didn't realize you expected a response. Sorry if I hurt your feelings, but don't you think you're getting a little too sensitive in your old age?

Just kidding. You're still my hero.

That's not dreaming; You're preaching to people that don't want to hear your fantasies.

You are too involved to have even the slightest clue at how outsiders view pool.

Just kidding. You're still my hero.

Roger

By the way Roger,.. that is NOT responding to, or even acknowledging my very insightful, and realistic observations !...
...That is just a very wimpy, "NO COMMENT" ! :p :p :p

Dick..(JK, or maybe not :D)

PS..I will come down to Bullshooter's when Oscar's in town, and straighten you out ! ;)...I've never met him, (he's too young) but its not hard to tell, he and his dad are very good people...I wish Oscar every success, in pool, and with his new tour !

Boy, ain't that the truth! It's clearly evident that many people here still have that same old worn out attitude that says, "Yes, we know we're boring as hell, but we like ourselves that way, so don't try to change us. And by the way, where's my paycheck?"

I think I'll keep living in my fantasy world, because the "reality" in your world stinks.

Roger

I just read the report on the AZB home page where Oscar and Amar split 1st & 2nd place winnings in the Mezz West State Tour 10-ball tournament in Sacramento this past weekend. Although that might have been the merciful thing to do in a tournament where the second set of the final match wasn't going to begin until 3:00am on Monday morning, it does absolutely nothing to help the long-standing situation we've had with "pro" pool in America.

In a sport that should be trying to draw live audiences to its events in order for its hosts to stand a chance to recover their expenses, and one that should be trying to develop interesting programs that could draw TV audiences to the screens so that advertisers could warrant investing their advertising dollars, we instead have one that insists on holding the same old types of events that pursue large fields and then drag everything out only to give no clear winner in the end. Why would anyone be interested in watching that? It's not even any fun to read about a split in the tournament reports. I don't care to hear anything about two people splitting money and points. I always want to know who won.

Whether it be limiting the fields, or shortening the races, or something else, I think our sport is broke and needs fixing. What do you think?

Roger

Im not a fan of splitting, a clear winner is the only way. Imagine what would happen if they split the us open tennis final. People want to see a clear winner of the final, not co-champs. It should never end that way! :nono:

Totally the same thing... All the cameras and fans and live tv coverage at this small open tournament with maybe 4 players (maybe) you've ever heard of in a small poolroom in NorCal. Sports Center is still trying to properly format a story so it doesnt look as bad.

I don't mean to keep discrediting Oscsrs tournaments but come on guys... It's a step between the Swanee memorial and Jim Bob's weekly tournament NOT the us open of tennis!!! The media coverage is to inform other players that this is a fun tournament with good money for a small event. It's not for fans. They're not charging a gate fee to watch, it's for the players to have a tournament to play in. Splitting the finals money isn't the end of the world.

Next time you guys have friends over for card night... The other 6 guys lost and they're gone, just you and Jimmy... Jimmy's gotta work tomorrow real early, don't you even THINK about chopping! Make him late for work!

Even though I don't really agree with Roger here, at least he is looking for a solution and not just complaining simply to be complaining. The solution mindset is better than the defeated attitude for sure.
