Lost Meucci Cues Found on Ebay

Check this out...Hard to imagine !

I intend to fully question UPS on this Cargo Largo thing. There are numerous mentions if you google them about stolen goods going through them all over the country. At this point UPS is the one who has lots of questions to answer...and I'll update here for sure.

Thomas, this may not be the best time of year to hassle UPS over your cues ;)...Check this out !

Based upon what you've posted, it sounds like ups is somehow linked to these stolen items. It also sounds like items had to have been removed at one of their distribution hubs. You would think they would want to get to the bottom of this, however, if they identify internal thieves to the public, it opens them up to substantial liability as well as incredible negative PR. I wouldn't expect any cooperation from ups unless the court or FBI compels them to.

Oh baloney-UPS IS big enough to absorb any flack over a few thefts for 3-4 days. They want to protect their future and would love to find the thieves (IMO)

Some people are a little all over the place here. Let me just state the following.

You can never obtain legal title for a stolen item.

Sure they do. But they want to do it internally so there is no negative PR or police involvement. You're very naive if you believe otherwise. Their cooperation with the OP seems to conflict with your opinion.

I am quite sure it's still in place, as it was when I worked there, UPS is so big they do not carry ANY insurance, of any kind !..They are one of the few companies in the world, large enough, and solvent enough to be "self insured"...Its a pretty
safe bet they will apprehend any wrongdoer's, probably well before our ineffectual local law entities, or the FBI does !...
...That's "Fumbling Bureau of Investigation", the ones who dropped the ball BIG TIME, on 9/11 :(

PS..However, paying for lost, or stolen shipments, are pocket change in their debit collumn...Imagine how expensive it must be, when there is an accident, where UPS is at fault ?..It happens almost daily somewhere in the world, and occasionally with a loss of life involved !..Isn't that a mind blowing $$$$ outlay ?..Also, UPS driver's are well trained, and encouraged to drive "safely, but aggressively"...Those two things often don't mix well !

Imagine what their parking ticket bill is-just in NYC even!

Many large companies are self insured. However, any I ever saw had their self insured policy underwritten by some insurance company to cover a catastrophic loss. Perhaps ups doesn't do this but it would be a surprise if they didn't cover themselves to some degree.

I've had problems with ups myself, their customer service was awful and I now avoid them like the plague. It's rather easy to be self insured when you fight tooth and nail to pay a claim.

That is a little unfair NCP...You should be privy to a 'pie chart' breakdown, at a UPS management meeting...Of the billions (maybe now trillions) of dollars flowing into their coffers every year they are happy to break even, or maybe show a small profit. They are running a business, that pays tens of thousands of employee's, a good living wage...They have to watch their expenses..How long do you think they'd last, if they ran it like the Post Office ? Or worse yet, like those idiots in Washington would handle it.."Oh, He seems like a nice guy..lets give him $3000 for that pool cue" (that you may have paid $300 for) LOL

PS..ANY of their losses, have the potential to be "catastrophic" !..Ever try to fight a 'wrongful death' claim, for accidently running over some millionaires kid ?..Who would want to underwrite something like that ? (except maybe Obama ?) ;)

Looks like they do around $56 billion per year and net around $4 billion and change. $4 billion is a bit more than a small profit.

They charge to insure packages. If I pay to insure my $3,000 cue, in addition to paying their delivery and handling fee, I'm not sure why there should be any issue getting paid when they damage or lose it. That's why I paid the additional fee for insuring it to begin with. Every time they successfully deliver an insured package, they pocket the insurance fee as additional profit. If they're going to balk at paying when they screw up, why charge the additional fee? Their insurance charge is variable based upon the amount you insure it for. If I paid the variable fee, based upon $3,000 of insured value, assuming I can provide a receipt proving that number is valid, they should pay it without all the stalling and hassle.

They're not a non profit company, they're a publicly held company traded on the stock exchange. Are you implying they shouldn't be liable for injuring or killing someone when their employees are negligent? I daily watch their drivers zip through neighborhoods at twice the speed limit, it's amazing they don't injure or kill more people than they do.

I've frequently heard ups is a great place to work, I'll not argue that. My personal experience in using their service over the past few years is it's expensive and their customer service sucks if there is a problem.

That is BS how many pawn shops do you think take in stolen items Unwitting and not know they are stolen ?
ARE you saying they break the law every time this happens in PA lol
possessing stolen property in and of itself is not a crime in any state

You mention pawn shops but that's what hurts your argument. Though you are right that possession of stolen merchandise may not be a crime in and of itself, Pawn Shops are held to a higher standard and are "supposed" to scrutinize all purchases asking the right questions to minimize their chances of taking in stolen merchandise. This is where the shop owners can be charged. I've seen it happen.
