APA aha moment

I am pretty sure that APA is not where I want to play anyway, so this is mute point for me, but it may open the discussion about the 23 point limit, so that eventually it may be changed so all people can play and enjoy the game of pool. Like I said, I am going to find a team that want me and wants me to help them win and I am sure it will not be in the APA.

Much better discussions about the 23 rule have already taken place on this forum.

If this discussion has shown anything it has been in how relatively peaceful it has been in comparison to the many past discussions on the topic. Perhaps that is a sign we can discuss why things happen rather than simply draw battle lines.

Agreed... Peaceful discussion on how to improve any aspect of the game is great. I love the game, leagues that support the game and people that play the game. If you disagree with someone's point of view, no need to make it personal.

If you have enough 7/9's to have two per team, then yes, you need to start more teams.

APA is designed for that. You might not like that fact, but that's not the goal. When you have that many higher skill level players together, it does not promote getting new people into the game. How many beginners, out for a fun night of friendly competition, want to get continuously run over?

If you are too good for this level, more power to you. Sandbagging is poor form in my opinion, and is nothing but self serving. That's your call. If you can look in the mirror knowing that you gamed the system, carry on.

I'll struggle along as a mediocre 5 who gives it his all, every time. Like the rest of my team.

That sums it up pretty well. As may have been mentioned earlier, 7's make up a very small number and I imagine 7/9's an even smaller one. To have multiple 7's playing in a night would mean that the other 95% of the league is going to get crushed. Doesn't sound like much fun to me either and I'm a 7/9. Besides, if anybody's ever heard a 7 whine about losing because of a handicap, they may as well thin the heard anyways.

By not trying hard you are actually part of the problem. Other players are more likely to go up in skill level because they win when you don't try. Then they may be over-rated and lose some matches (intentionally or not), and others may go up as a result.

By the way, just so everyone knows who is speaking here, Mr. Ashworth joined the APA a month ago and has a grand total of seven matches played in APA - 3 matches in 8-Ball and 4 in 9-Ball. He's currently a 6 in 8-Ball and a 5 in 9-Ball, but since he has admitted to sandbagging I'm sure his league operator will be adjusting those numbers soon. If he played in my area I wouldn't even bother adjusting numbers - he would never play another APA match in my area again.

Our APA has well over 100 teams and our operator runs things just like you. Your integrity is admired, keep up the good work success is inevitable.

I have agreed that APA is a good league and the biggest. I have said that they have a great idea and I wish I had thought of it. I have not sandbagged in any league play, but I must admit that I don't try as hard. Even though just starting out with APA (mentioned in OP), it was just an observation that the 23 point rule seemed like a pyramid scheme.

If you are reading my post, I wish you all the success in your APA leagues. It is just not for me, because I am very competitive and want to play in leagues that want competition. APA is a great fun league, like I said, "it is just not for me". So I have played my last game in APA and will be looking at other options. Good luck with your APA League, I wish you the best.

None of this makes any sense. You talk about not getting to play and having to keep score because of Rule 23 but you are only a 5/6? Your number doesnt cause any issues. If you really are a world beater, and I am starting to doubt that, a coach would be stupid not to put you up every time. As it stands, you are robbing. 4-5 race against a 7 in 8 or 48-75 race in 9??? Additionally, your captain is going to be pissed in three weeks for playoffs if you really are a sure thing and you quit.

Just sayin.

Makes no sense to me either, that is why I decided that it was best to move on. I have to drive for 1 hour each way to play, so when I get there and have to sit out in 9-Ball or 8-Ball it pisses me off. Therefore as the APA Operator indicated, I am not a good fit for APA. I agree with him and should find tournaments and leagues that will allow me to play....

There are pro and semi-pro tournaments all over the place that would give you a chance to play!!
