Your thoughts on break tips

I recently got a break cue with a phenolic tip. I was going to return it because I did not feel comfortable with the phenolic tip but I have been breaking well with it. However I can't stand the hit of the phenolic and always have the thought of a miscue in the back of my mind while breaking. Trying to work through it because as I said I am breaking well with it. I find I am chalking it like crazy before breaking and making sure the tip is completely covered before breaking but just can't get comfortable with it. I am a feel player as I'm sure many of you are. Any thoughts about a medium layered or un-layered tip for this cue? I really don't want anything too hard. Thanks.

I hate the feel of them. I got a cheaper 100 dollar one last year and tried it out a few times. I break okay with it but I just hate the sound and feel. I started breaking with the old cue I used to play with.

XX Hard tips work just fine.

Samsara is the best tip for breaking for me. I offers that hard hit with good feel and control. Try one out and I bet you like it too.

I was using a Stinger break/jump cue with a phenolic tip. Didn't care for it as a break cue as the gain in speed (if needed) was not significant enough to make much difference. I wanted more control so I am using a Lucasi uniloc cue with a maple 13mm shaft which has a medium tip. I still have the speed I need and control I was looking for. BTW - there is nothing wrong with the Stinger it was just a matter of how it felt to me.

I agree with this. The samsara is very good. I can play a whole rack with it and miscue at all even using extreme English. It has a good feel to it.

Same here. Occassionally I'll play out a rack with my break cue/Samarsa tip just for a change-of-pace (my player has an UltraSkin Soft so it's a big difference). No problem using english or miscuing. But make no mistake, the Samarsa is a HARD tip; it's not going to feel like a Medium tip.

I feel exactly as you do about the phenolic tips.
The break cue I have for sale has a Mezz Ingot tip (this is an Extra Hard leather tip)

Really don't want anything too hard. Loss of feel. Pro and con on medium tips for breaking?

Well a con for breaking with a med tip is that it will probably turn into a hard tip sooner rather than later. Samsara break tips are a good solution but I've always found I break harder and maybe a bit better with the phenolic tips. If I want control I just break a bit softer with my breaker and there is still a substantial pop.

Hate them, my BK2 has one and I hate breaking with it even though I still do it, mostly to protect my player and also because I own the BK2 so I figure better use it. But I break just as well with a house cue.

I'm thinking about going back to a house cue too unless I can figure this out. Hate the phenolic tip.

Yeah I have one of those ugly Gulyassy Orange Crush break cues with a phenolic tip, it took me a long time to get used to it because it always feels like you miscue. There is no doubt it increases speed with less effort than my other cues and control really is pretty good when you get used to it. I got used to it and found the miscue limits by playing a few full racks with it.

Samsara and White diamond are my recommendations. Just got a Taom installed on my BK2 and I'm liking it so far.

I just got a stinger w a phenolic tip. I am going to change it to the samsara break tip, I was prevously using on my less expensive break cue. Samsara is an extremely hard break tip but it is also layered. Definitely has more feel that phenolic and it's easy to add english on the break.

My cue maker is the only one that can scuff it, as it requires a lathe and typical hand scuffers don't work on it. The tip is the best... great.. no question.

That's a lot of samsara suggestions. I'm assuming everyone is talking about the samsara break. Does it have any "feel?" That's why I'm considering a medium tip.

Yes, being layered they do have a good feel, however they are definitely hard.., you may like a white diamond better, they feel just a tad bit softer to me than a samsara does..., as far as a taom tip I don't like because I've seen one crack on a player once, looked like a spider web there were so many in it..
