Pool rooms/bars/nights on the town are people watching activities, toss in great equipment and the lookie loo factor increases, ten fold...."that's what going out is all about''.

Having been in hundreds of billiard rooms, worked in clubs for fourteen years in five different states, and having designed four and built two rooms, there's a Big miscue here, but a simple fix. Everybody at the bar has to turn around to look at the pool tables, better yet, they get to look at a Wall with a flat color and stare at a bottle of vodka x ? I'd much rather look at the beautiful gal that just came in without her knowing it.

You must allow your bar patrons to ck out the whole room without turning around all the time, they also become more disconnected from the bartender, which is Key to many factors. And I'm not talking about a keep that ''knows every drink''. They're a nickle a dozen at best. If ya want to find a Great barkeep, steal em from another biz :). Bar patrons will never get a stiff neck, didn't look, do your bar stools swivel ;)

Every single "pool hall" I go to in town has the bar against the wall and you can't watch people play pool. You make some very very good points here.

So how do you put in a bar that would face the tables without blocking the tables with the bar? Have a glass back to it? I would think at best it can be parallel to them sideways.

Fast Eddie's

The Fast Eddie's in Houston has a raised bar that is in the middle of the Pool Hall and is rectangular. All the tables are below the bar on the left and right side and the games are on the back side of the bar near the rest rooms.

You can see all the tables from anywhere near the bar.

Its a great lay out.

The perfect is a two step down sunken bar with a glass back. That way the liquor bottles are below the line of sight of the guy/gal getting liquored up sitting on the bar stool. This pool room also, looks like it can be seen entirely from any one bar stool while facing a bar with a glass back wall, that is very functional.

there is a simple reason most bars are designed with the bartender facing most of the room and pool tables. the reason is so they can keep eyes on the ya-hoos in the bar so they can prevent and/or stop trouble from getting out of hand.

Talking about the patrons..................

i'm running through my head the many, MANY bars/halls i have known nationwide....and there are few that are spec'd like this. Vegas casino lobby rounds, Miami, and one restaurant/bar in Raleigh.

the concept is brilliant.

one of my furniture showrooms just installed an O-shaped bar in the center. we can see everything & everyone from outside or behind the bar, plus it seats from all sides. (of course, we need to change our barstoools to swivel!) so if Rooms to Go walks in - we can JUMP over the bar from four sides to get to them! (this also applies to being able to stop a brawl)

with the cash register in the center, i would think it'd make stealing a deterent.

thanks for the info!

Another cool aspect of the barkeep being down a couple steps, all the plumbing can be built within the framework for repairs, and if your barkeep is washing glasses (they should), their back won't be THAT sore come 1 am on a Fri. night when your slammed. No one needs cranky bartenders with sore backs when their packed late at night.

I play in a small bar where the back bar is mirrors, you can see who comes in the door, who's playing on the two pool tables and talk to the person 3/4 stools down through the mirror without having to lean forward or back to see them.
