Just curious what you all would recommend for a book on straight pool?

I consider myself B level at most games, but my straight pool game is likely C- or D+, and am not really sure why I suck so bad LOL.

Advanced Pool by George Fels. I got a copy years ago and I still take it out and re-read sections. It covers other games, too, but the section on 14.1 is the largest and best.

It seems to be still available on Amazon.

Also check out Babe Cranfields Straight Pool Bible. Easy read and has some insights from a Hall of Famer.

I agree, Brian. I bought this book over twenty years ago.

George Fels' Advanced Pool breaks down 14.1 to simple components.
Without referring to my copy, he "labels" each ball within the layout and shoots them accordingly.
Making it relatively clear on how to approach that layout.

By far the best book on 14.1 I have ever seen.
Mr. Fels also does this in a very entertaining and easy-reading manner.

If you don't own this book, get it!

Best book I've ever read

Was the first book I ever bought back in the early seventies. I know, I'm a dinosaur. It was Mastering Pool by George Fels. Exceptional writing with comprehensive diagrams and explanations. First line in the book: " I'm sorry to tell you fast eddie but your hitting the ball too hard." I've read most of the others mentioned and for me Mastering Pool resonated the most. Great read... Good luck

The Fels book is terrific, but the Capelle book is great too. The one with the DVD on setting up break shots is great.
