I think I will like this much better than the scroll chuck.

I really liked it on the small headstock, especially when I wanted to work on something metal and hold it tight. Now I don't use the small headstocks and I missed the adjustable chuck when needed. I understand you can shim the scroll chuck with rolling papers and make your own collets on it to make things nicer for it. But hey, I'm never in a hurry anymore.

Ditto on that. 4 jaws don't really take long to indicate in and have much more clamping strength than the scroll chuxks. I can't count the times I've had parts move in my scroll chuck, so when you consider the time to recheck alignments and pick up previous cut depths and such it's really just as efficient to set up the 4 jaw independent to begin with. I wish I had a 4 jaw independent for my big bore headstock.

I would rotate the jaws for more surface area to chuck on. That would require less pressure to clamp.

yay!!!!!!!!

I want one!!!!!! i would rather spend time getting it right, then fighting time after time it going wrong

Why is that carbide mandrel laying in the dirt?!

It doesn't take much to break a corner off.....just saying.:frown:

Excellent point. A good thing to make a habit of is to never take your hand off of the chuck wrench until you are completely finished with it, and start the spindle with the same hand.

When I first got a lathe about 5 years ago I left the tommy bar in the scroll chuck and forgot and hit the on switch. It made a small place in the bed and made the chuck harder to turn.

Take it apart and file the bent ends on the scrolls back to smooth....

Todd told me to do that, I never did, but I think I will because I am building a new lathe. I had an extra 42 inch bed with no rack so I bought a new carriage for the leadscrew and leadscrew and am going to make something out of it.

If I could get enough ppl to order some of these, I would talk to the guy who did the work for me and try to get people some. I have been wanting one for about 3 years, and now it's good to have it when I need it. I think if I could get about 10 people wanting them I will talk to the guy doing the work and try to send them all at once to save on shipping.
