This thread, "start aiming with left english then move stroke hand away from the body to pivot to center" is how I remembered reading it...
This is funny, In all those PM's I got many of them said, that I can expect Stan to start attacking my character soon...
I have mentioned that I purchased DVD's on over 10 different aiming systems and none of them helped my game. Bottom line is none of the aiming DVD's provided me with anything that helps my game. I will continue to practice...
Stan sorry that you took it that I am slamming your DVD, I just said I don't understand it. I have watched DVD one over 20 times now and don't get it. I also have 30+ PM's from others that say the same thing and I could expect personal attacks to follow.
I don't get it. I made similar comments and I never received any PMs. None in support, none against me. Stan didn't respond at all, and certainly at no time have I felt I was in danger of having him attack my character. Sounds fishy to me.
Also, why would you actually watch the damn thing over 20 times if you still didn't get it by the 20th time? I'd put a gun to my head sooner than waste all that time on something that was screaming out for me to leave it be. If this is true, you are a true masochist.
Stan attacks people all the time who don't understand the system. I asked legitimate questions on things I had problems with and all I heard was crickets or you just have to put in more table time....... If you aren't doing something correctly, then table time is not going to help. I know tashworth in person and sold him the dvd. I simply said good luck and I hope it works well for you.
Some people when spending $40 on something want it to help them. Why not keep trying until you understand the meaning behind what is said?
What I have said if you read the threads is that I don't understand CTE Pro One and I need CTE for dummies.
What I have said if you read the threads is that I don't understand CTE Pro One and I need CTE for dummies. No one has explained exactly how to use CTE and the Video for sure did not explain it.
As far as Stan attacking me if you look back at the threads, he basically said I was a liar about being an advanced player and that he seriously doubts my word on getting 30+ PM's about CTE and problems that others have had. He wanted proof, but to do that I would have to post a picture of my PM page which would expose the people that sent me a confidential message. I don't think that would be right to get them envolved since they wanted to stay out of the argument. Most of them said they don't respond on here due to the people that attack them when they question the DVD's in any manner.
Like I said in the past -> I am glad CTE works for some of you and I wish I could get it. I don't, so if you feel the need to attack me based on the fact that I just state that "CTE makes no sense to me" then attack away. I am a big boy and I can take it.
I feel like 90/90 might be CTE for dummies.
So you are pivoting twice or do you swipe as you stroke?
How can you use the cue from aiming since its not pointed where the CB goes?
I think this is the statement that might rub people the wrong way.
"but my conclusion is all aiming systems is "Snake Oil" and none of them work very well."
CTE Pro One works as described - how long have you been working with the system? Table time in hours?
Cheers,
Gerry
Gerry, I can see how the term "Snake Oil" could have ruffled feathers of those that use CTE and other aiming systems and I apologize for using that term. I win many local tournaments, but cannot get close to the good players in bigger tournaments. I was trying different aiming systems trying to get to the next level in my game, hence that is why I purchased several aiming systems. I have about 90 hours actual table time trying to figure CTE out and I have even had a couple of local guys try to explain it too me, but they seem to be struggling also (at least from what I observed).
I will continue to try and figure it out and maybe I can find someone that actually uses CTE here in Austin to give me a lesson in it. Like I said, I need "CTE for dummies".
Thanks for you reply, it explains why some people may be upset with this thread. All I am asking for is there someone that can explain to me step by step how to use CTE? This thread has over 40 post on no one has attempted to actually explain how to use CTE.
The answers is more table time, practice, etc. I get it...
90 90 is not CTE. Ron will tell you that 90 90 is not CTE in any way. Two seperare systems.... Many many many differences.
Stan Shuffett
Off the top of my head:
-the visuals are different
-as well as the pivot, both manual and "air pivot" (a bit clunkier in my opinion)
-and the "loosiness" of a single reference line
-and the options you lose from not being able to thin or thicken a perception
-lack of a 60 degree perception.
But it's a system with a partial analog to half of the 15/30 and 45 degree perception. And it's leaves the realm of ghost ball, and feel, for actual consistent points of alignment.
Try using "Secular CTE"(TM):Gerry, I can see how the term "Snake Oil" could have ruffled feathers of those that use CTE and other aiming systems and I apologize for using that term. Try using "Secular CTE"(TM):
- choose the reference alignment (inside edge to A, B, C) that's closest to the actual cut angle
- decide whether the actual cut angle is thinner or thicker than the reference alignment
- instead of "acquiring the visual" and "pivoting", simply learn by trial and error how much to adjust from the reference alignment (which is what those terms mean anyway)

Since the OP doesn't seem to get "real" CTE, I'm offering another way to look at aiming using the same initial alignments as CTE but with no "undefined" instructions.Real CTE is not an Adjustment system and I think you are aware of that.
:thumbup:I've been trying to learn how to play pool seriously since October 2013 and I've been working on CTE since June. So that's 8 months out the 16 months of my entire pool career. As soon as my stroke was straight enough, I've been trying to learn aiming this way. I just find it difficult that I'm both cross-eye dominant, and have to wear glasses for my astigmatism. I will always be off when I try to naturally line up a shot by feel.
Spending 90 hours on CTE isn't really that much, when you weigh it against your entire career of playing by feel. I think it's like a natural born English speaker spending a month taking night courses in intro to French, and then writing French off as stupid because it just doesn't make sense.
It's not a magic bullet; it's a different way of looking at the game.
I have no natural talent for the game, and my eyes are a mockery to cue sports, but being able to clear a rack of 8-ball at least 2-3 times a night feels good (for the time being).
So if your eyes work fine, and you're successful, then maybe aiming systems aren't necessary. But if playing by "feel" your entire life, has still left you with enough uncertainty (however small) to go out and buy multiple aiming DVD's, maybe you shouldn't ignore it.
I think the problem was some part of you was looking for that snake oil remedy. That magic bullet that would take you to the next level. Instead you just found what looks like a lot of somewhat confusing possibly vague hard work, with (at your level) possibly little benefit.
Anyways, I hope you find what you're looking for![]()
