Yeah.
Do what topic title suggests and you will benefit stronger game and happier life.

European pros have done that now 15 years at least.
They know it is so much easier to execute when your body work like oiled machine.
Your mental side can keep focus and sharpness easier when you are not tired.
So if you are serious player and not keeping your shape you are doing it wrong!

I got reminder for that last weekend and i want share something what happened..

I have been quite awhile away from competitive pool. Some local/nearby opens sometimes but nothing serious.
I also quit pool totally for 3-4 years due my health(back rheumatism) problems.

I finally got my back decent shape and started play couple years ago again. I learned game again and practiced(a lot) just for fun.

Finally i got so good stroke i got physical NEED to go play some competitions. And i signed up Finnish 8-ball Championships.
I have been playing good and solid so i feel good about my chances to execute and finish high.

Finally when i get to competition i notice i can´t perform my stroke because my muscles won´t LET ME!
I realize i made rookie error and played way too much(and i am not too young anymore) without taking muscle care.
My left arm was so tight i try force it relax with long stretch and it just got worse... :frown:
My left thumb went little numb and i could not do bridge properly..
After i notice what happened i was already playing against tough opponent and got really nervous because i just can´t execute!!
Nothing mental. Just pure physical flaw. My laziness got back at me at critical moment..
I went 4-1 down to race a six. After that i just got road map and finally made one table one visit. My opponent then handed(got somehow odd nervous) me couple games and i get 6-4 win gifted.
Then i try use my waiting time just to get my thumb work and get it little better but still all i could focus is how i make bridge hand..

I get little lucky and get to second day from one loss side and had better thumb but still akward.

Finally raising young gun put me out and i felt so bad about my effort to competition.

So don´t do mistakes i do.
Take care your body so it won´t fail you when you need it.

good ways. I had these when i was still healthy and young.. ;)
- stretch - get massage(you really need it) - try some abs and pushups -
- swim - biking - etc..
you don´t need to get super fit. Just keep mobilizing your self and you will get fit enough.

Pro players do take care their body. They know it is essential to perform under pressure.

ps. I try get muscles back on track before next tournament next month in Sweden where Shane is coming so i´m prepared if i can get game against him :grin-square:

Bad joke "I'll draw back"....

Good stuff!

One important thing to do to keep you on track is to start every workout with a light warm up routine.

I cant stress this enough as I feel it is the secret to consistency. So many days I dread working out but I know I've got to, I used to skip the warm up when I felt tired just to cut the workout short but still get it in, bad idea.

I still have days where its tough to get started but I can always stsrt with a light warm up and once I get going the workout is much easier.

Loosen the joints
Light calisthenics
Jump rope

Once you get started its easy to keep going.

And one thing about health. You rarely take it seriously but keep it obvious thing. People notice health only when they lack of it. Me too...:sorry:

i think working out can definitely aid in your game. you feel better mentally and physically, less stress, your body is stronger, and you are much more grounded. if you stretch, jacking up on ball becomes easier and if you have to stretch across the table it becomes a lot easier.

Too bad many players are deceiving themselves. "Look at that guy, out of shape and still plays great, therefore I don't need to get in shape if I want to be the best". People usually pick role models who seemed to work less to achieve their goals instead of those who worked their butts off and then worked some more.
Poolmanis, you still play great despite the pain. Was nice seeing you back in action :)
