Hello all......I am going to Vegas at the end of April to play in the Single National Championships. Each player gets a $350 travel assistance to help with flights. The absolute cheapest I have found is a "Wanna Get Away" deal from Southwest. It is around $600 round trip! A normal priced flight is almost double that. The prices have doubled since January. Anybody have any insight on how to obtain a cheaper flight? I know it depends on when you fly, etc., but they are all ridiculous. Do any of you "Business Travelers" have a million flyer miles that would be willing to book my flights (and wife's) and me pay you? I know it's a "don't trust anybody" world but you can't get hurt. You book the flight, I verify it..... and if I don't pay thru Paypal, escrow, ever how you want to do it, within what ever time frame you want, then you simply CANCEL the reservations. Inbox me.......... HELP.....HELP....HELP!

Sounds about right for the price I paid to get to Vegas for Junior Nationals with my son, heading there again when the BCA show is there.

Always pricy since so many convensions are there, seems every time I need to fly, it's during the expensive season LOL

Only issue with us booking far in advance is that the dates of the tournament may change and then I'm stuck with possibly non-refundable tickets.

I had the same problem. I was stoked that the travel allowance went up a little and that I'd get my own room.. then i checked flights. After i noticed that the room is covered til the 4th for 8b, i at least got tickets a little cheaper, but still a bit surprised. With the last place $100, it came to about even i think. Keep in mind the baggage fees that other places will add, too.

Where are you flying in/out of? Do you have connections? Can you drive to a bigger airport and get a direct flight to Vegas?

Look for a deal with a travel agent, see if you can get the SW Chase credit card it usually comes with about 10,000 points or enough for a free round tripper. Look at any credit cards you might have that might have a travel benefit. Check out any locally issued coupon books that might have travel coupons in them. Surf the internet for any discount codes that you can find.
The credit card thing is huge, a lot of time people can travel for free or close to it but they just don't realize it, I haven't paid for a plane ticket in years.
As a last resort, consider driving. and maybe flying back. Check your local paper or internet for ads that might need autos driven from one place to another. I've done that a few times for dealers, rentals, fleet cars.
Try not to hitch hike. It would be awful to get stuck in the desert with your pool cues

Oil prices are the lowest they have been in years... Airlines have been increasing their bottom lines profits by consolidating and cost shifting from everything from peanuts to baggage to non refundable tickets (which btw they keep the collected taxes) over the past 6-8 years as the middle class 'consumer' income stays below par... and thats about to get worse going into the end of this year.

'Low cost' regional carriers are like Allegiant Airways are raking in profits (flying 2 days a week) as the larger Airline mergers companies are abusing the general public as they always will to try to make their shareholders happy. Flying with bags (clothes and cues) will cost extra. Last month my bag fee ($40) on Allegiant cost more that the 1 way ticket fee ($35).... Concord/CLT to PIE- go figure.

Its unfortunate but until the consumers STOP -one way or another- supporting (allowing) the MAJOR carrier practices these abuses, as they say 'the market price' has a way of finding its place... They'll thank you for your support at the ticket counter until you stop. Yes your gunna 'miss out' on travel (events/vacations etc) in the near future because the rich aren't thru stuffing their pockets as greed has no eyes.

Boycott is the best way to a just a market but it has to be a herd of folks at the same time to get the job done. In America that usually means the whole economy has to turn down and rampant fear has to be in the headlines... Have you seen our recent economic reports?? re employment/job growth stats. Sept is the next Cycle turn for our economy and the major Airlines will chase out every dollar thru this christmas/holiday season. Then you will see it let up...ALOT, over the next 3-4 years. But this year its gunna be rough for flyers.

This might happen if you change the American culture that says you have to go someplace on an airplane for your vacation. When my girlfriend tells her co-workers that on vacation we drove someplace "close", they give her a pitying look and say something like, "oh... well... that's nice too..."

I'll be there too that weekend and will be getting $425 from the APA but the reason the flights are so outrageous that weekend is because of the championship fight Saturday night at the MGM Grand. So instead of going from Thursday-Monday I'm instead going from Wednesday-Tuesday when the air prices are more normal.

Skiplagged.com can be a good tool to find cheaper flights. What it does is search for flights that either go straight to your destination airport, OR finds flights to other cities that connect in your destination city (Hidden Cities), which are often much cheaper than the direct flights. Instead of connecting and continuing on to the ticket destination, you just stay in the connection city (where you were going anyway).

This might not help much being that you wouldn't be able to check a bag and have retrieve it at the connection, but if you can find a way to do carry-on-only, you can find some pretty awesome deals.

The college student that created it is being sued by Orbitz and United, but as of right now, the site is still active.

You can't do a carry-on only as you can't take a pool cue on the plane plus I found a lot cheaper flights than what was offered on that website.

Most of the times, you can fly cheaper if you fly on an off day. The weekends cost the most.

I'm very happy that you found better prices somewhere else.

It's not always cheaper to do it that way, but many times it is. That's why it pays to shop around. The site only offers another pricing method that was not accessible before. Most people have no idea about this method so I'm just giving everyone a heads-up.

As for carry-on, there is always the option to FedEx your cues to your hotel and pick them up when you get there.

Sometimes you have to get creative.

I'm going out on Wed. the 29th. via SW for about $164 and UsAir back on a red eye early Tuesday AM for about $152 which I can live with flying from the east coast.

Try ITA.com (I think google just bought it) It has a very robust search engine for the major carriers. Seach across multiple surrounding days, weeks etc

note: Some discount carriers aren't listed... You must go to the individual site to get any discounts....as they fly limited days and times.

ie in the United States...
Allegiant Air
Frontier Airlines
JetBlue
Southwest Airlines
Spirit Airlines
Sun Country Airlines
Virgin America

I've did everything possible. I'm in middle Tennessee, and have looked at every city within a 2 hour drive. All the same. Would venture to think this will put a burden on some that qualified for Vegas but simply can't afford it. I hope not but wouldn't be surprised.

i just pulled up 4 nights & airfare BNA to LAS:
- Riviera @ $618
- Circus Circus @ $630

THU to MON

now, if the idiots would change the dates to NOT cross on the MOST EXPENSIVE hotel nights FRI/SAT, your rates would be:
- Riviera @ $390
- Hard Rock @ $494
- Strat @ $448
- Circus Circus @ $415

MON to FRI

or....

one week/6nights, plane & hotel, WED-TUE
- Riviera @ $528
- Strat @ $590
- Circus Circus @ $563
