How many miles you get out a that Kamui?

Do you break with your cue?

No. Don't break with it. Average 40 to 50 games of 8 ball a week. This year I played 9 ball all summer when I took a break from league.
I get a year out of it. Usually change it every spring. This is the only tip I have ever used that plays the same from beginning to end.
Once it gets to the orange warning layer, it plays a little harder. Thats when I change it.

Okay so I had two kamui blacks and noticed the same thing. I rarely have to scuff a kamui as it holds chalk very well. If I do scuff it I use kamui's gator grip which seems to only rough the surface lightly.

I do however must mention I use the same cue to break with. I think that over time the tips is being compacted but can't explain the depletion of the layers of leather.

Someone explain this to me and I may go back to one. I currently use a ki-tech and I must say it's much better when it come to the life of the tip. I actually take my shaper to it bc I'm currently using a hard. And have seen no depletion in the tip at all. Pretty crazy.

I've always used soft tips but idk why the ki-tech soft didn't do it for me nor the medium. Everyone seems to love both these types. I never thought I would like a hard tip but I have really taken to it. It has nothing to do with making balls or playing better either. It's a total genuine hit appeal that I like.

I even went back to the soft and medium and couldn't get used to it. Weird!

Hey I am about done with the Pechauer gold hard tip I started using when I first posted this thread its down to the same thickness the Kamui Black Clear Hard was. I'm probably gonna tabulate the totals this weekend and change the tip. But to what? Any ideas... I was thinking a Kamui Brown Clear Hard or maybe run this psudo-test on a UltraSkin Hard. But if anyone has any recommendations let me know. By the way I liked the Pechauer Gold Hard not a bad tip at all not that I'm all that picky but I liked it. I realize this is a pretty weak method of wear testing tips but it appeals to my obsessive nature.

Edit: I'm gonna do the math on this tip and try to play them approximately the same number of balls. For comparison sake since I still have the shaft with the kamui still on it and can actually measure the tip thickness on both tips after. So stay tuned....

So I did the math and so far I have already gotten 4,000 more balls out of the Pechauer Gold Hard tip than I got out of the Kamui Clear Hard Black tip. But the Pechauer is about 1 mm thicker than the kamui was when had finished so it looks like I have a few weeks to go to make the test accurate.

I switched to kamui clear black mediums about 4 months ago. So far I average 1 tip about every 3 weeks. I switched from talisman hards and they averaged about 1 every 5 weeks. I play with a short tip though, can't play any other way. When it's installed I have it shaved down until there is less than an 1/8th of tip left. Way more feedback and control in my opinion.

I liked the kamui so I'm definitely not saying a few thousand balls is a good reason to pick a tip but its an interesting thing anyway. I might do another Kamui hard clear and see what I get out of it this time. For comparison sake...

Erm, what?

I think he means months, I made the same noise. Maybe if he really loves his scuffer. One of the reasons I like my test is cause I don't scuff past the initial shaping when I install my tip and I only scuf till it fits the willard dime gauge to the original top layer. So I am usually playing the full tip down to nothing. I suspect UltraSkins will run the table with this cause they come pretty tall compared to other brands.

No, I mean weeks. When you start off with the tip damn near to the clear pad, it doesn't last very long. That's how I like it, how I play the best, and something I will always do. I rarely if ever scuff a tip.

Wow Kamui should send you a Christmas card. I get approximately 100 days of actual play out of a tip give or take a week or two.

Time lapse photography says a lot.........it says you sanded the shit out of the Kamui Clear tip in the photo.

I have Kamui Clear tips on 7 cue shafts. Jerry is installing Kamui Clear Black tips on my new cue right now.

Kamui Clear tips are the best and the tips don't wear out like the OP has suggested without scuffing the tip.

I checked out your blog. Very cool to keep running records of your practice. Well done.
I also play a few racks of bowliards as part of my training regiment. What does 100@96% indicate on your blog? I'd like to start keeping more accurate statistics on my log book.

You must not play much :-/. All tips wear out, and it doesn't take very long
If you're playing a lot. In my limited experience so far (5 tips), kamui doesn't last any longer than the rest of them.

Stats

Thank you, The number at the front of the stat usually 60 100 or 150 is how many balls I hit in the drill then I list the drill name then I list my percentage of successful shots. The definition of success depends on the drill. I also play allot of bowliards because its a nice way to keep track of your average ball pocketing ability. And because of the apps available to keep a record of your stats for my yearly report card post. I use Bowliards Score Book and post the pocket average as the percentage. I believe this stat is a percentage of successful shots. Really the whole project is just a way to motivate me to practice and to give me a realistic sense of my progress as a player. I also keep my stats in a Moleskine graph paper reporters note book. I used to have a spreadsheet till that computer broke and I lost 5 years of practice. I probably should have used google docs. It has helped my game a ton to organize my practice around stats and standards. IMO you wont be dissapointed if you start logging your practice. It also helps to keep you going if you post it in public because people will see when you slack. Its very motivational to me.

You may not play quite as obsessively as I do but allow me to assure you chalk is an abrasive and when you brush it on a leather surface thousands and thousands of times it wears on that surface. Not to mention smacking it into a hard ball while covered with that abrasive and I play a ton.

I don't watch TV I don't go out with friends I don't play video games. I only play pool in my free time. Most days from 8:30 (my sons bedtime) till 1:00 am I am playing pool in my living room. A few times a year my wife might take me somewhere for a special torture they call a vacation. I actually don't have any friends that don't play pool and I don't really hang out socially with the friends I do have, I compete with them.

I really only play pool and it makes me so happy. Mostly because I am an obsessive weirdo but I am ok with that. Hell I quit drinking to help my game. Haven't had a drop in 6 months. No I don't want to be a professional player I just want to hit a few more balls then a few more. The process is the goal for me and I love the process.

That's very complete and thorough. Yes, I absolutely agree on the value of bowliards. I would also add in your table's TDF (table difficulty factor) from dr. Dave's thread....
http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=324408

So whenever you practice/play on another table with a higher TDF, and your scores drop, it will be qualified instead of looking like you are slipping.

It isn't easy to keep count when you are deep in concentration with drills. I always lose count myself, so your accurate number keeping is commendable.
