Bar room gambling is dead

Someone mentioned it above, but I've talked to some old timers and have heard more than once the issue is Poker machines and the proliferation of easy access gambling. In days gone by that was not an option. You had many folks that had a gambling problem, some cash to spend, and would play for cash on the tables. Folks that had no business playing for money. There were always folks waiting to take that money. Now with poker machines, the need to play pool for money is gone to these gambling addicts. They now sit in front of the machines and mindlessly push the buttons with visions of that lucky jackpot hitting on that next brainless push of that button, in the back corner of that dingy bar...

I may be wrong, but it doesn't sound like anyone is looking for action. It sounds like the suckers in the bars got tired of making donations. There are plenty of suggestions listed in the above posts, if you want action instead of a freebie from a sucker.

I don't think it so much the money but the fear of being hustled. Kind of a pride thing. People are just a little smarter nowadays...especially after the Hustler, The Color of Money, and the interwebs. Oh and TOI.
Plus you have the issue of getting beat up if you do happen to win a few bucks.
Knew a guy here who won about $80 in a beer joint. He went outside to get in his car and the guys were waiting for him. They took the money back, threw gasoline they had in Listerine bottles on him and set him on fire.
He died of course. All this over a crummy bar and $5 pool game bets.
No thanks people...you can have that stuff.

There action in Texas, Houston has more pool rooms than any city in the country, theres action in all the bars, $10-$20 a game 8 ball and 9 ball, just head south.

You beat me to it. I can find $5-$10 action almost everyday in my local bar. On special days, $20-$100 a rack 8 ball ;)

ZZZzzzzZZZZZzzzz

Really?

Just finding this out now?

Oh, nickels and dimes and playing for beers is not action.
