Would a HUGE 3ball tourney be fun?

With all the leagues running their State and National tournaments, the SBE, DCC, etc. Wouldn't a really big 3 ball tournament with a certain number of either rebuys, or unlimited plays for as long as you wanted to rebuy be really lucrative and fun.

Think of 100 people paying $1 to play 3 ball and it rolls over, over, over, finally people drop out from not wanting to pay, or someone makes all 3 on the break and no one can tie that.

Work out some payment for a 2nd 3rd, etc. for those who stick it out.

Might go on for days, but the payout would be incredible.
 
Can you imagine the prize pool after 24 hours of play LOL.

Wonder how quick 100 people could play knowing that anything less than making 2 on the break or having a shot at making 2 after the break in one shot is a push.

We used to play this when I was young in the bars.
Nobody could play a lick and it was a great gambling game.
Sometimes it would takea player 6 shots to make all 3 balls.
You just have to make sure all the players are pretty equal in speed.
I think we had a rule that anyone who ran out was barred from the game for life, { j/k but it would have been a good idea }
 
There is NOT a pool game I would NOT play, and that includes bumper pool. But 3 ball is my kryptonite. I can't stand this insidious game. We usually have 9 ball ring games after league, then I joined another team, and they play 3 ball after league :eek:

However, that being said, I probably would still play it anyways at a state tourney ;)

Let"s see if 9b and 10b is on 9 ft it follows that 3b will be on 3 ft
I can lug a 3 ft around and get lots of practice
I may be potential world champ in new category cos there are no competitors and probably a total of 3 people in world who would play for W3B

We would play 2 tie all tie. And the lower speed players would get lucky and win just enough to stay interested.

Who is putting in all that money? Can someone sit on the side lines then when the money gets up there say "I'm in"?
 
There will be double tier Calcuttas also
1st tier bettors bet on players
2nd tier bettors bet whether bettors who bet on 1st tier will cry foul and start thread on Azb to complain

Back when, I came up with a 3-ball format that would take weeks to finish with each player coming into the bar at least once per week to shoot his round(s).

It paid not only for the lowest round but also for the lowest total for 10 rounds over the weeks of the tourney. I can't remember all the details of it right now, but it worked quite well.

We started the first night with a big party at the bar and each player got to shoot several rounds. Then we finished it a few weeks later with a big party and the final rounds.

I used the international scoring system that golf uses (Rutherford or some name like that, I forget now) where a par (4) is a one a birdie (3) scores a 2, etc. A bogie (5) is a minus one, I think.

Anyway, in spite of my memory, it was fun. Somewhere I have a big chart I made that list the rules, etc. and we put that up in the bar during the term of the tourney.

I've always thought 3-ball had the potential to make big tourneys more fun as each player would be mostly busy playing not waiting.

It's $1 every time you get up to the table, so at the end of the round there is $100 in the pot. Or you can do any other amounts.

No, you can't just sit there, you have to at least score whatever the "break even" is usually 4 or 5 at most.

Great idea.

To prevent the waiting, you can run 2 or 3 of them at once. In essence $3 per time at the table towards the tournament.

What I especially like about 3 ball is that I can potentially string 2-3 racks in a row, unlike 9 ball.
