This must be first time in a long while that an underdog like him became world champ
Underdog?
He won a ranking event this season and reached a couple of semis and was ranked I think 6 and is now ranked number 2.
£300,000 for his win - not too shabby I suppose either..
While Stuart is MORE than capable and he proved that in his last few matches (against the likes of Murphy, O'Sullivan, and Trump), I think the "underdog" comment was meant to imply that, given the field of players in the World Championship, Bingham was probably not the odds on favorite. Neil Robertson, Judd Trump, Shaun Murphy, Ding Junhui, Mark Selby, Ronnie O'Sullivan, etc. would possibly all be considered more likely to have won the title.
But Stuart played VERY well in the 2 or 3 matches I watched and his win was well deserved.
Thanks for clarifying that underdog comment. Bingham was a late bloomer. But he deserved to win cos of the big names he took down
Would he win another WSC?- i seriously doubt so. Not knocking him
I would classify his win like Daryl Peach W9B win , Huidji See W10B win- both guys who did not remain as elite after winning WC

To be fair, nobody sensible would bet against anyone winning another world championship unless they were Ronnie O'Sullivan (or Reardon or Davis or Hendry in days gone by) because people rarely win more than one.
So who will win in 2016. Ok, I'll take the easy call and say Ronnie.
A little like Daryl Peach's W9B win, except Bingham played rock solid snooker at a level that won him the world championship. Peach played "controversial" pool with his soft break. Both of them thoroughly deserved it and did what they had to do to win (an average player couldn't do that - Peach played very well all round over the course of the tournament and Binghamf beat 3 world champs plus Judd Trump). Clearly though, luck played a bigger part in Peach's win.

Who in last 20 years was least favored to win and yet won 2 WC ? Which outsider won 2 WC in last 20 years? None
You would be hard pressed to find another outsider like Bingham who won in last 20 years. Maybe Shaun Murphy who won as a qualifier 10 years ago
1990 Scotland Stephen Hendry[c]
1991 England John Parrott
1992 Scotland Stephen Hendry
1993 Scotland Stephen Hendry
1994 Scotland Stephen Hendry
1995 Scotland Stephen Hendry
1996 Scotland Stephen Hendry
1997 Republic of Ireland Ken Doherty
1998 Scotland John Higgins
1999 Scotland Stephen Hendry
2000 Wales Mark Williams
2001 England Ronnie O'Sullivan
2002 England Peter Ebdon
2003 Wales Mark Williams
2004 England Ronnie O'Sullivan
2005 England Shaun Murphy
2006 Scotland Graeme Dott
2007 Scotland John Higgins
2008 England Ronnie O'Sullivan
2009 Scotland John Higgins
2010 Australia Neil Robertson
2011 Scotland John Higgins
2012 England Ronnie O'Sullivan
2013 England Ronnie O'Sullivan
2014 England Mark Selby
2015 England Stuart Bingham
My point in by and large in any sports the WC are cornered and won by elites. Pool only had handful of instances that outsiders won Peach, See, Wu, Alcano. Wu and Alcano proved they can hang with the best even after they won whereas Peach and See just fell off

As for surprise world champions, Shaun Murphy was probably the biggest shock of the last 30 years, Graeme Dott wasn't exactly odds on favorite though. Going back a bit further, Joe Johnson was quite a surprise and I don't think anyone expected Dennis Taylor or Terry Griffiths to win it at the time.
Dennis Taylor - what a funny guy- love his humour . If only pool had characters like him. Even Terry is funny - saw him run some jokes while running trickshots
Have t watched snooker for long time - with dearth of world class 9ft (7ft) pool events this month, will go watch some snooker.
Which is best WSC final of past few decades, anyone?
The final I remember most is that Taylor Davis black ball final![]()
The 2011 final was pretty good,
Judd Trump vs. John Higgins
