Landon Shuffett 99 Ball run dated 3 Mar 2013

Is this the same Landon Shuffet who beat Earl Strickland on a 10 footer in a match that is all over YouTube? The same match where he fouled a 9-ball and didn't own up to it?

Yes same Landon. What is this 9-ball foul? Do you have a link to the place in the video? Are you saying Landon fouled or Earl?

There's the link. Slide to 1:56.00. I'll never be convinced that Landon wasn't aware he touched that ball.

Have you seen how fast real pros cop to the fact that they grazed a ball. Mika? Shane?

Did it affect the match's outcome? No. Do the pros play all fouls? I sho thank so. This ain't no BCA league w/ cue ball fouls only.

Hey everyone,

Not really even sure where to begin. I am hoping to set the record straight here. I have been questioned about this particular shot before and I gave the same response as I will here.

As you know, this match between Earl and I was quite a long time ago, so my memory of a single shot where I moved a ball is not completely clear BUT, I can assure you that I did not intentionally "take" a foul against Earl. I am not even sure whether it was all ball foul or not, perhaps it was? If it was then I must not have known that I touched the ball...if I did I would have called it on myself. If it was not all ball foul, then what would have been the harm in saying, "Hey Earl, I moved this ball. Want to leave it there or move it back?"

It has never made sense to me why people would intentionally "shark" or take fouls. Is that game or match really that important in the scheme of things? Is it worth ruining or losing relationships? Creating a poor image for yourself? That tournament title that will probably not mean much in 6 months? No, it is not. That match with Earl was certainly important but not so important that in front of hundreds of people, I would intentionally take a foul. And, as you could see by the way I played, I had enough confidence in my playing abilities that I didn't need to take fouls to beat him. I proved that.

And whoever accuses me of this must not know me at all and as a matter of fact you do not. Anyone that I grew up playing pool with or anyone that has known me my whole life (in the realm of pool or not), would tell you that that is just not how I operate. I maintained a reputation of someone that is honest and plays fair (I have won sportsmanship awards before in the World Junior Championships, just so you know.)

Lastly, you are forgetting that things like this happen, right? In an all ball foul tournament, there will probably be an instance or two where someone touches a ball, doesn't know it, opponent doesn't see it, and so therefore he is not penalized for it. Does that mean he meant to? Nope, not every time.

And let me leave you with this, not all "pool players" are out to get the others.

Landon-

Well written, and I appreciate the moderate way you are responding. A long, long time ago, in my chosen sport, I was ranked 3rd in the world for 2 consecutive years. It was in the late 60's--a time when money, media, etc were not what they are today, and the notion of what it meant to be a champion was held in high regard and equally important to how one performed. It could be possible that you were so focused on your game that you were unaware of that 9-ball nudge. I just doubt that this could be true for a player of your experience. I know you were certainly focused on keeping Earl out of your head. "Hey Earl, I moved this ball. Want to leave it there or move it back?" would have been a very appropriate word to exchange w/ your opponent while at the table. Certainly a little more respectful than, a 'whatever, man'.

I agree, pool players shouldn't be out 'to get each other'. They should simply honor this wonderful (deep, challenging, difficult) game in every way.

Landon has a really nice stroke. His body is in alignment with each shot. I guess this is what you develop when your father is a well respected coach.

I think Landon gave a proper answer. You have to look really hard to see if the ball even moved. It was also touched by a part on the body that you wouldn't normally associate with touching another ball. I highly doubt Landon even knew he touched it and Earl certainly didn't jump out of his chair to contest it. You sir are clearly nitpicking.
Landon has a very highly respectable reputation in our fine sport. If more players were like him our sport would develop a much better reputation for itself.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people feel they need to bash someone on the internet. No matter how many achievements Landon has and will earn throughout his life, some people will never give him credit. Why? because his father offers an aiming system for sale? Ridiculous. I saw nothing un sportsman-like at all in the video.

It's all good guys. I think you all believe me when I say that I never intended to take a foul. And when I say that as long as I play the game, I will always be honest and respectful to all of my opponents as I always have been.

Keep on keeping on boys!

Landon

It's sad we have to get distracted from the nice run Landon had by an unthinking poster. I've met Landon and he's a perfect example of what we need to represent us in this sport. He shouldn't have to be posting and defending himself. :frown:

Best,
Mike

I agree Mike. Had the opportunity to spend some time with Brandon at the Lindenwood pool arena.
A perfect soft spoken young gentleman always willing to help a fellow player.

John :)
