Your wrong if you think that the only reason people buy nice cues is to play better. There is something to be said for making sure that everything around you contributes to your psyche.

I have a high end cue that I play with that people are always making me offers for, I enjoy owning that cue and playing with it, never going to sale it.
 
Based on the results so far, there sure must be a lot of safe queens out there. What are y'all waiting for, play em like ya stole em ! :)
 
I'm in the 1k-2k range.

60" Bobby Hunter with 6 floating ebony points on BEM with an ebony buttsleeve. Ivory railroad rings in all positions. Both original shafts have ivory ferrules. Playing shaft is currently a BD SS360/2 I had custom made by Bob. That might be changing to a Mezz WX900 in the future, that shaft is the stone cold nuts.
 
At original purchase it was 2K, it's Bob Frey's 1st custom after he left Scruggs shop, signed & numbered as Cue #1. I Play it everyday, it's why he built it, to play.
 
i bought a cue, adams steve mizerak, 40+ years, dead straight. $75. as soon as I have extra cash, i'll get it refinished. that will be my player, and couldn't be prouder. straight grain maple, four pointer classic. But I'm still not sure how I want it done. I like wrapless, cannot play with linen, and regular old cheap leather used for wraps I hate. so I need to go stacked leather, or an exotic, which feels pretty close to wrapless. I haven't tried cork wraps yet, not really sure how it would feel, my hands don't get too sweaty, and I don't like it slipping when my hands are dry. anyway, $75, is what I paid plus the cost of a refinish. yup. :thumbup: I have a tiger 3 cushion cue modified to a break cue with two shafts for sale if anyone wants to help out.:)

Would you agree with the following? Darren Appleton would play much better with a $4000 cue than a $400 cue? Assuming both are identical other than the graffiti on the butt. Do you think he cares more what his cue looks like or his mental state at the table? The mental part of his game is far more important.

Think trinkets are fun. Have a few myself. If you honestly feel a more expensive cue gives a player a long term mental boost, Oh well. Short term? It's just like a new car, Put more miles on one of my new cars before it was delivered than in the following several weeks. Was fun driving it in my mind. After the fun wore off, it was just another car. Same applies to pool cues. JMHO.

as long as a cue has some parameters to your liking (tip,taper, weight,...) it is not important how much it did cost, its just personnal feeling to get "the best" out of your skillset.

I like my cue because its cheap, stiff and the balance feels right to me. that being said, i did also run some tables yesterday on a coin operated table with a rubbish housecue. My own cue is just a bonus to enjoy my favourite hobby even more :smile:
 
I think the poll should have started with $100-$299. If all are honest, I believe that would be the highest %. For example, I have two players. A Viking retail for $350, and a Cutec R-360 retailed for $136 when I bought it.

But I've been away from the poolrooms and bars for about 8 years. Things might have changed. Johnnyt

For the shear number of "high end" cues sold, there a such a small percentage of those being used as daily players. Most end up in personal display cases or gun lockers.
