Cue ID assistance...

Hi all,

I'm assisting a friend who was buying some guns from and older woman who's husband passed, and she offered him this cue. He came to me to try to identify it, and I've looked through my blue books but can't give him an answer, so I'm hoping an AZ'er might be able to help. Here's what I do know:

-it seems, especially the forearm, to be good quality, points are perfect, two high, two low, four veneers, black dot inlays above each. The spacing is good.

-veneers are inside out, natural, purple, orange, black. Pearl dots in each point.

-butt has the pearl dot inlays, again great spacing.

-two shafts, both match minus the difference in length. The shorter one doesn't seem to have been "shortened" if you know what I mean.

-the weird: the butt is exactly 30". The longer shaft is 30 1/8". The shorter shaft is 27 1/2".

-under the bumper is a hex bolt, larger than what I'm used to seeing.

The cue doesn't seem to have been played much.

That's about it, if anyone has any suggestions we'd appreciate the input. If any other info or pics would help please let me know. Thank you! Kevin.

Thanks Mr Bass, I'm not too familiar with the Gandys except for their tables. I'm going to do some digging and see what I can find.
 
Resembles Ricco Cervantes Gandy-ish type stuff.

LOL surely you remember the Ric(c)o lineage...

Indeed I do my friend. ;)

I'm trying to find pics of his stuff that resembles this one. The blue book doesn't even have a Gandy section. Thanks everyone for the help

This thread has some good info about the Gandy line. What had me thinking Gandy was the thicker pearlesque ring work around the joint and the big dots.

But that stuff wasn't exactly exclusive.

Nice find there Bishop, that link shows the same pin and ring style from the first cue listed. That second reddish cue has a diff pin. It seems this cue could be a combination of different designs from that brochure....anybody know if Ricco made 60" cues or perhaps this one was custom ordered. Who knows...
 
Gandy had logos on all I have seen.
I lean toward Ricco also and that makes it a great find.

He did make 60'' cues and he didn't always use the same components either. There's a lot of variety in his work over the years. Different pins, weight bolts, joint styles...etc.

Right on...the book says his son Marco moved to Mexico and makes a few cues a year, but that info is dated. I'd try to contact him but I'm guessing he wasn't even born during this era and might be more familiar with the more intricate Ricco cues his father made later. Worth a shot. Thanks again for the info Bishop, Cueman, and everyone else. Can you imagine not having this forum (Internet) back in the day when we were trying to figure this stuff out???

Now consider my source but rumor around the campfire was that Marco never regularly turned out any cues but did dabble a bit in a few personal ones. I was told that it was Marco who sold off all the cue making equipment after Ricco's passing and it was implied that the source for the quote in the Blue Book of Cues was probably Marco himself.
